LINDSAY Gilbee's immediate AFL future is in doubt after sustaining a knee injury in the VFL today.

The veteran Western Bulldogs defender finished the match on crutches and will be sent for scans tomorrow.

Gilbee, playing in Williamstown’s loss to Geelong in Torquay, was working his way back into senior coach Brendan McCartney’s side after a lingering calf injury plagued his NAB Cup.

The 30-year-old spent the bulk of last year in the VFL, playing just two matches after celebrating his 200th game with a win against Carlton in Round 16.

Tom Hill kicked four goals for the Seagulls, while Blues recruit and rookie-listed defender Mark Austin was the best-performed Dog.

Justin Sherman is also ready to return for the Dogs, while Ayce Cordy is closing in on his first game under McCartney as a much-needed focal point up forward.

That's what I would like to see. Other teams have two tall key forwards and two ruckmen. Why can't we? When it is mentioned the comments are that it would make us too top heavy.

I agree, the Collingwoods, Geelongs and Hawthorns do. They use the forward press to keep the ball inside 50. We need the run from the backline and wings and once we get the ball into the 50, we have to pressure the opposition to keep it in.

West Coast.... Cox, Natanui, Lynch, Darling no way are they top heavy.
And I think they are a massive flag chance

Gilbee to have scans today, but club says, injury may not be as bad as first thought.
