FOOTBALL’S most expensive appendix was removed in emergency surgery on Wednesday night as Tom Boyd’s dramatic life as a Western Bulldog continued.
The Dogs $7 million man was at home in Ringwood with his parents when he reported feeling sick in the stomach.
Rather than make a fuss with his new club, Boyd’s mum Anita took him to their local GP who quickly suggested he should head to the nearby hospital.
It was on this journey that the former No.1 pick figured he should at least let the Dogs know about his medical drama.
You can imagine the reaction from the club’s medical team when told someone working the late shift at an Eastern suburbs emergency ward was going to be slicing open their prized recruit.
Mrs Boyd was politely informed to turn the car around and head immediately to the Epworth Hospital in Richmond where the Bulldogs medical team were waiting anxiously.
We can report the surgery was a success and with a two-week recovery period, Boyd will be clear to go for the start of pre-season training.
