    I agree with you. Unfortunately I don't think the system does.

      A few years ago there would have been many a teenage footballer shedding tears at having his number read out by Port Adelaide. I know the Essendon situation is different and in a very different scenario, but if they're guaranteed picks they're 5-10 year players, and only have to play 2 at the Dons.

      In a way, I'd prefer Essendon becomes the GWS of the AFL, can watch their talent walk out the door as soon as they've developed them.
