Darley and Hunter with two of the cheapest, ineffective 30+ possession games you'd ever see.

Roarke Smith was BOG of the Dogs players, IMO.

I'd tend to agree but even Smith wasn't great. Biggs and Daniel were okay for most of the game. I don't think I've seen Daniel kick with his opposite foot yet. Pearce was okay as well.

Darley improved after half time but had racked up the turnovers before that. Hunter did some exciting things but struggled to find targets and his decision making wasn't good.

One thing I noticed over and over again that we had a number of team mates flying for marks together. Pearce took a ripping mark late in the 1st quarter but he was the 5th Footscray player up. He should have been roving the pack.

Smith's skills just looked better in those conditions .

Harsh on Darley. He played very well but did have some turnovers.....wasn't alone in that regard. Really like Smith....and Pearce was far from our worst as well. Unfortunately our best players were pretty much our back flankers......positions we are well served in at senior level.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Our forward 50 entries were diabolical in the first quarter. How many intercept marks did their defenders take - at least 5 or 6.

The same problems that plague our AFL team trickles down to the VFL team, and our inability to lower our vision when going forward is one of the most glaring.

Coughlan at CHB was a positive.

We spent most of the day looking like the team that had never set foot on the ground before. The whole day really. Given the conditions were fairly arctic but we didn't seem to have a plan to deal with them and just blasted the ball long with the wind. We were marginally more effective dealing with moving the ball for bits of the second quarter but by the last most of the players had pretty much given up. I thought apart from Smith and Darley and Hunter that Talia kept trying for most of the day. 57 (Hayes?) tried hard, Daniel tried a few different things. Falling over on the half back line and being pinged for holding the ball was pretty funny.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I liked Daniel's pin point pass into the wind that hit up Cordy who then slotted it. It was one of the very rare times any Footscray player had the ability to execute a forward 50 pass.

What an awful day at the footy that was! Totally out gunned by Willy. Very poor performance - just didn't look like it all day.

Roarke Smith was good. That was a positive. Negative was everything else..! I'm now willing to declare that Prudden isn't going to cut it. Talia was deplorable - I don't know what's going on with him. He's lost the plot recently. Redpath hardly got near it - but we didn't exactly pepper inside 50. Daniel was reasonable. Hunter was ordinary - despite getting plenty of it. Darley was okay, but lacked poise - particularly by hand. Cordy was just okay - a bit better than Campbell. Didn't see Hamilton - doubt he even played..

29 scoring shots to 12... Says it all, really.

I moan about Etihad closing its roof on sunny days, but give me that any day against the wind that was ripping through WO today. You simply don't get gales like that in AFL stadiums nowadays! One boundary ump took three goes to throw it in from the Mt Mistake pocket today!

Hamilton definitely played but wasn't a factor.

Smith is just a goer. You know what you're going to get from him every week: 100% effort, some quality defensive spoils on blokes much bigger than him, a few nice kicks, a few skewiff kicks and at least one hanger

It was great to see Terry Wallace in the outer watching the game with his wife. I got to have a quick chat and we joked that there were still a few teeth of his embedded in the ground courtesy of Rod Grinter's elbow.

Plough's son was umpiring today, too.

This is one of the reasons why I can't see the sense behind the continual push by many of our fans of putting AFL games back to the Whitten Oval. It's also one of the reasons why I think there needs to be a substantial investment in our vision for Ballarat. I've been there for the games where the wind has ripped through ground. The venue will need to make sure it blocks a lot of the wind and at least provide some decent seating for fans.
