I hope not. That would really be fking the Williamstowns, Potr Melbournes, Sandringhams, Frankstons etc. over.
The VFL works well. Don't tear it apart to accomodate the interstate clubs.
What would happen to Footscray? We can't afford to run 3 teams and keep track of 80 players.

I think the VFL will stay as it is, just some VFL games to be played as curtain raisers to the AFL, particularly when the fixtures match as it did a couple of weeks ago against the Bombers and last week with Carlton and Northern Blues v Collingwood
It's hard to imagine a 2nd full set of players and support staff from each team flying all over Australia every few weeks to play on a suburban oval in front of a couple of thousand people (or hundred in NSW, Qld). It'd be a massive loss maker.
Having the AFL team "2nds" connected to a lower level competition (VFL, SANFL, NEAFL etc) is a brilliant way for them to be more connected to their grass roots communities, surely even the AFL can see the immense value in this.
Funnily enough, I've spoken to a fair few Port Melbourne supporters that would be all for this, as they're ticked off about competition with AFL-backed clubs.
I can see that for the old VFA teams, it's hard to compete but, on the other hand, without the involvement of the AFL clubs, the competition as a whole would have a lot less media attention/interest/sponsors/crowds/money. Then it becomes harder to attract decent players and coaches, and then a vicious cycle is in place.
I loved the VFA. My father was a former Yarraville player. When I was a boy, we watched them every week. When they folded I, reluctantly at first, switched to Willy and saw most games from the early 80s to the mid 90s. By then, the competition had deteriorated to near irrelevance.
If the AFL do pull out of the VFL, the likes of Willy, Port and Sandy can go back to winning a lot of flags, but their clubs will be poorer for it.

Who would they play?
There is only Willy, Port, Coburg and Frankston that are full stand alone clubs. All the others are partially or completely reliant on their AFL overlords and wouldn't exist without them.
On a positive angle though, I'd love to have two games to watch back to back. I love watching the seniors doing their trade in the present, but I love watching the kids build the future just as much. Put both together and that's a great day out in my book.

Where does it say that the games will be played as curtain raisers?
I can't see ES & the 'G coping with double the amount of games as they do now.

Assumption on my part. When I hear the term reserves I think same day footy. You may or may not be right.
