    Footscray's Flag Chances 2015

We all know where the AFL side is sitting and how we are tracking for a crack at the AFL premiership, but (particularly because I'm overseas so VFL news is hard to come by) I would be very interested in how people view Footscray's flag chances.

Who are our main threats? I see that Box Hill, Willy and Sandringham are the three sides above us. Early in the season we convincingly lost to both Box Hill and Willy, but more recently have had a close loss to Sandy and a big win over Willy. Are Box Hill a stand out first-place, or is it more even than that?

How will the AFL side moving deep into finals affect the performance of the VFL side? I see it being a positive, as similar to Box Hill last year, we will be allowed to play otherwise ineligible players for Footscray so long as the AFL side remains in contention. On the downside, I would imagine that our constant rotating of players means that a few of our young pups will actually be ineligible, although I forget the official rules (eg has Bailey Dale played too many AFL games to qualify?)

Personally, I see our tall defenders being the weakness at Footscray. I would be surprised if any of Roberts, Talia or Hamling are eligible given their AFL experience this year, leaving only Jordan Russell to steady the ship. Do other teams have the capability to expose us on this front?

Looking forward to hearing the thoughts of those who get to see more of the comp. Wouldn't it be amazing if we did the AFL/VFL double? #daretodream

Footscray is tracking about where we were at the same time last year. We had fallen of the pace a bit last year until a spurge of form at the end of the season got us over the line. The last gasp win at Punt road in the last round got us up to second and a home final-I don't think we would have won the flag without the home final.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

players who have played with the AFL Senior team of any AFL Club after the 1st day of July in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Senior or AFL Victoria Development League Finals unless they have played a total of at least six (6) Senior VFL or AFL Victoria Development League matches in the same season.
      and

AFL listed players must qualify players under Regulation 20.2 and must have played not more than 12 AFL games to be eligible to play in VFL finals matches.
      Link

Given the above qualification rules we actually have plenty of players qualified, including players currently in the AFL side, such as: Hamling, Hunter, Redpath, Daniel, Darley, Biggs, Campbell. Jong needs to play 1 more VFL game to qualify, Dale 2 more - but they have both played 10 AFL games so they could also end up going over 12 as well.

Of course given that the senior team will be going all the way open selection will apply anyway.

That would mean that Darcy Supermac doesn't qualify?

We have Coghlan and Zaine Cordy that can play tall in defence as well.

I don't see why Darcy wouldn't qualify - he only has to have played 1 game as far as I can tell from the rules, which he has done. You wouldn't think he would get a game though? There will likely be players missing out.

Also Mark Austin for defence? Talia could also possibly qualify if he is dropped in coming weeks.

Forgot about Mark Austin. Has he been injured lately, it seems like a while since I saw him play.

We'll be right up there, we struggled in the VFL when we had a longer injury list but we've been getting more blokes back than we've been losing for a while now
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Doesn't qualification rules are for AFL listed players. He only has to be play one game and he has.

He is not VFL listed, he is the 23rd man from TAC. Need to check the rules for that.
