We just couldn't seem to defend the long ball into their forward line.

That's disappointing we've thrown away second spot and a final at Whitten Oval.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Ugly game overall but one we should not have lost. I thought the Bombres side looked really weak on paper. Having both Goodes and Dale out hurt but I'm sure they would have had 2 travel with them to GC. It was a tough loss, the goal that put them in front was touched so that makes it sting a little more. Always tough to lose to those pricks even at VFL level.

Hrovat was our best easily. Style of game and conditions suited him. really played well.

Darley got a lot of it. Some poor decisions at times especially one close to the end. Overall you'd give him a tick.

Webb I liked. Probably our best user of the ball. Lovely goal in the 2nd. Wasn't real consistent over 4 quarters though.

Minson caused them a lot of problems. Used his size and strength so well. Played mainly as a forward.

Boyd was awful. From falcons to dropped chest marks. Conditions didn't suit but didn't suit some of the other big guys either who managed to clunk a few. Can't make excuses for him at this level with rubbish opponents. He needed to dominate tonight.

Liked Roughy. Played a lot of ruck and seemed to win most contest. Moved a lot around the ground. He'll be tired tonight.

Fletch did his job down back. He'll be close for a call up.

Liked the look of #66 up forward. Don't know who that was.

Yet at the opposite end we had monsters and would hesitate to put it in long. Big Will was screaming at players to put the f'ing thing in there. His words, not mine.

As long as Fletch and Roughy got through unscathed, I'm reasonably happy.

              Thanks for the report G-Mo.

The good news coming out of this game is that Roughead and Roberts have got through another week and sound like they are getting back to match fitness. Hopefully we can bring one of them back against North next week and the other against Brisbane. Would be ideal that they both play a couple of games before finals but there may be some benefit in staggering their return.

If Roughead is going to come in and play as a ruck/tall forward in tandem with Campbell, I wonder what that means for Boyd getting back into the senior side? Indeed, what will it mean for Campbell if we prefer Roughead and want to bring Boyd back in?

Good problems to have I guess, but there are going to be some disappointed players who miss out on finals action.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Thanks for the summary G-Mo. Very disappointing although pleased to hear that Hrovat, Roughead and Roberts did their bit. Shame to hear that Boyd was so poor given the quality of the opposition, and would affirm the MC's backing of Redpath at this stage.

Considering Cordy has been pushed to the back half, who has been fantastic as a ruck at VFL level, you'd think Roughy is coming back as a ruck and I'd guess to tandem with Campbell. Redpath has Boyd's spot IMO, he's got to play well enough to push him out of there. Last night's performance won't get him there.

I'm probably a bit dismisive of Essendon's VFL listed players, they do have some good ones running around with them. They did look seriously depleted in the back half though. Boyd lined up on Steinberg for most of the game and was beaten.

                    How was A.Cordy down back?

Could it be a position that may suit him. Maybe not to wrestle the big forwards but maybe to use his height and athleticism.

Being sent back is it the last straw?

Not entirely surprising with Goodes, Dale, Pearce & Smith with the seniors this week
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Spoiled and positioned well. Both he and Roberts did there job down back.

They've had to find a way to fit all these talls in the one team and I think they've struggled with that the last 2 weeks. Boyd and Minson are playing forward. Cordy and Roberts are playing back while Roughy is playing everywhere. They all had had their fair share of time in the middle. Last straw? No. Hansen is just trying to make it work.

On those the players deserving consideration for promotion would be Minson, Roughead and Hrovat.

It seems that Ayce Cordy has also performed well predominantly as a tall backman.

I haven't seen him play in defence but i wonder that playing as a tall defender at VFL level compared to AFL are completely different things. At VFL level you would rarely match up on a physical beast like a Kennedy, Roughead or Cloke.

I can't personally see how Ayce can match it physically to be an AFL quality defender.

The only other time I remember him in the backline was at Willi for a few games.
