    Operation Get Cross

There have been lots of threads for "Operation get Carlisle" and the like, but I think sometimes the most valuable signings aren't necessarily the most obvious and Daniel Cross could become one of the most valuable players available to us.

Here are just some of the reasons why I think we should be doing are utmost to get him in a Footscray jumper for 2016 and beyond.

1, Professionalism: Crossy's work ethic, preparation, and attitude has been well-documented. This is exactly the sort of bloke you want as a role model in the rooms with the younger/developing players.
2, Experience/Leadership: There aren't too many available players with nearly 250 AFL games around. Invaluable on and off field and could also take up some coaching/mentoring duties.
3, Playing Ability: Was playing some really good footy this year and is a little unlucky not to get another contract. Would expect him to be a dominant figure at VFL level.
4, Culture: I have never met Daniel, but from all reports he is a genuinely nice guy and he seemed to be universally loved by the players. He also loves this club. You can never have too many good people in your organisation and just like negative influences can pull others down with them, positive influences can lift them up.
5, Nostalgia: I would wager that most would be ecstatic to see Daniel pull on the Bulldogs jumper again. Could also be some limited marketing/memorabilia opportunities.
6, Nostalgia Pt.2: He may not want to play VFL but I think we owe it to him to give him the opportunity. Sure it's not the AFL team, but he would be back in the club he loves and would be a part of/contribute to any success we have from here on in. It would be great to see him eventually get a Bulldogs send off too.

I could go on, but you get the idea. I genuinely believe he would be an extremely valuable acquisition and his impact on our developing players could be felt well into the future.

Edit: Perhaps we could even have a leftover Rookie spot and get him to that 250th game?

Heard he's going back to Albury. He'll certainly get more money there.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I wonder if tapping him on the shoulder with the opportunity to start getting coaching experience while playing VFL would tempt him?

A role in the fitness department may be tempting, wonder whether he'd be a fit for the role vacated by Mat Inness

Innes has stepped up to the top fitness job.

Pretty sure lemmon is referring to the position previously held by Innes.

He was promoted into Cordy's role, there's a back filling opportunity for his old role.

As much as I love our old players, I am of the opinion we need input from those that have experienced success at other clubs.

Already our coaching staff is full of explayers, which limits us to some extent. Love to see someone that has been with Sydney over the past few years so we can get their input into how to become a successful club.

I would usually agree with this but I think the type of person he is and the ability to slot him into the VFL lineup where he can lead by example is a unique proposition. He is the right type of player too, a contested ball winner that usually lays it off quickly to others (so will put the ball into the young blokes hands) as opposed to a Stevie J type who wants to take players on and kick goals from everywhere.

I wouldn't mind him playing at VFL level, sure, I agree to that.

Maybe Crossy can enlighten us as to the mysterious inner workings of the Demons juggernaut
