On the Clock - Draft Preview

This is worth a read and a listen to.

    Future pups?

    Darcy TUCKER
    North Ballarat Rebels | 23/1/97 | Ht: 183 | Wt: 80
“Darcy’s been an instrumental leader for our football club this year. He’s a running half-back flanker – that’s his best position. He can go onball and his run and carry and decision-making’s very good. At the start of the year we played him as a midfielder, just to develop his midfield crafts a bit more – he has developed that. There’s been high expectations of him this year to really take the game on, but when he has played half back at times he’s showed what he can do. He’s a bit critical on himself sometimes, wants to get the best out of himself, whether that affects his performance, I’m unsure. He’s also done all of the Rebels’ opposition analysis this year and he’s got an outstanding football brain.” – North Ballarat Rebels’ talent manager Phil Partington

    Brayden FIORINI
    Northern Knights | 22/8/97 | Ht: 187 | Wt: 76
“He’s an outside mid. As a 17-year-old he played every game and played every game this year, so he’s got good durability. Had a consistent year, he played on the wing for Vic Metro and then went into the middle mid-year. Left-footer, silky skills, uses the ball well, and is a high-possession winner. His last game against Gippsland was outstanding.” – Northern Knights’ talent manager Peter Kennedy

    Tom COLE
    Bendigo Pioneers | 28/8/97 | Ht: 186 | Wt: 80
“Tom’s had a great year. Played national championships for Vic Country and was steady off half-back for us all season. Great composure with the footy, loves the contest, takes the game on and can play midfield if required. I think he is ready-made to play AFL football next year. Played a couple of VFL games for Geelong this year and did really well. I’d be expecting him to go somewhere in the middle of the draft.” – Bendigo Pioneers’ coach Brett Henderson

    Aidyn JOHNSON
    Bendigo Pioneers | 31/10/97 | Ht: 184 | Wt: 75
“Aidyn only played one game because of a recurring quad injury but his agility is up there with the best. A real excitement machine who can play one-out forward and really have an impact but can also play on a wing. Great pace, great skills and detests being beaten so is super competitive.” – Bendigo Pioneers’ coach Brett Henderson

    Josh DUNKLEY
    Gippsland Power | 9/1/97 | Ht: 189 | Wt: 85
“Josh is the son of former Sydney player Andrew but we didn’t see a lot of him this year because he was injured early in the first third of year and then played Vic Country and spent most of the remaining part of the season playing Richmond VFL after he moved to the city. Played in the finals for us and is a good leader. Very much and inside player who loves the contested stuff, is a good mark and can play midfield or forward.” – Gippsland Power coach Leigh Brown

    Callum MOORE
    Calder Cannons | 3/9/96 | Ht: 193 | Wt: 87
“Cal oozes X-factor and could be our highest draft pick. He has elite agility, speed for his size and a great leap. He is still learning the game – he’s going to get better over the next two years. He’s played mostly as a key forward but he might project best as a key defender – he’s got the tank to run up the ground. For him, his kicking score of 18 was exceptional, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen him kick left foot, so he’s managed to get at least probably three 2’s or a 3 on his left foot at the combine. He’s real extreme, he can drill the ball from 60m and hit somebody, or he shanks one shooting for goal from 20m out.” – Calder Cannons’ talent manager Ian Kyte

    Nick COUGHLAN
    Murray Bushrangers | 12/9/96 | Ht: 193 | Wt: 83
“Nick had a great year in which he came fourth in the best and fairest which was a credit to him because he changed his whole skill set and went from a forward last year to a defender. Led our team in intercept marks, is a great long kick and at 195cm has a good set of hands.” – Murray Bushrangers’ coach Darren Ogier

It's a copy on the SEN article. I provided the link in the opening post.

Interesting. I like Fiorini, Cole and Coughlan, but would've preferred to see more talls on that list.

Fiorini is an excellent player. I'm not so sure about Cole or Coughlan.

As for tall's, Skinner, Glass-McCasker and Gardner have some appeal.

Thanks for posting Gary. Excellent reviews. Are these guys likely to be available around our picks?

Is Nick Coughlan a chance for us? I'm suprised to see that he's only 193/195 cm. It says 193 in the title and 195 in the text but he looks and plays a lot taller. He can be a bit lazy by foot sometimes but he is usually pretty safe with the ball in his hand and he is a very good intercept/contested mark.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It's hard to form an opinion having never seen those kids play, bit Fiorini sounds like a decent fit.
I reckon anyone with a form spike is a decent chance, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't grab a tall key back

Emma Quayle gives a club by club summary. Fairly spot on assessment of our position IMO.
