Yeah that's an interesting aspect of the Academy process, if the Clubs are forced to use up a lot of points early, it will be harder for them to match bids on later nominated players. That's why a few people are looking closer at Himmelberg; with Hopper and Kennedy rising up the ranks, GWS will have to use up a lot of points to get them, which may make HH gettable at a lower pick (unless the Academy clubs choose to go into deficit for next year).

Hopefully clubs with very early picks select Academy players, forcing the Academy clubs to burn up points with their counterbids. This will have important ramifications later in the draft. I'm not so fussed on Dunkley personally, but can see GWS lower ranked prospects Himmelberg, Coughlan and Flynn all being possibly attractive to us at a later pick so would love to see Hopper (some rankings regard him as high as #1, most top 5) and Kennedy (5-10) called very early.

That's true. I think all individual phantom's should be taken with a grain of salt. Collectively, they give you a rough idea of where a prospect fits into the scheme of things (although some shocks will occur on the night), that's about all.

Emma Quayle and Cal Twomey seem to be the best connected to the clubs. Their phantom drafts released in the day or 2 pre-draft are usually the most accurate, based on a fair bit of insider knowledge into club preferences.

I don't get this, if the Swans haven't talked him into yet they won't unless he is just enjoying the limelight.

Might be a bit high maintenance?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

They have talked to him GVG but as I said in a previous post they can't guarantee him that they can get him. They mightn't have enough points. I would assume this is going through his mind too.

Clubs are trading future picks now so I don't think they will see going into deficit as an issue in bumper academy years. The discount is more significant for later picks so if they want someone on their list I don't think they will let them go

Our best shot at a protected player is Josh Dunkley not nominating as F/S

Charlie Curnow has spent the night at a Geelong police station after refusing a breath test and was released at approximately 6am this morning, according to the Herald Sun.

The Ox has really opened up on Curnow.

Fancy Curnow having the cheek to refuse a breath test.

Rings a few warning bells I'd have thought. He already thinks he's above the law and he hasn't even been drafted.

                      Good on The Ox.

It's doubly stupid when you consider with his brother being at Carlton he should have known better than to stuff up a few days out from the draft.

I know it's harder now for mistakes like this to be swept under the carpet but I'm constantly amazed how stupid and arrogant a lot of the younger players are now. Their education as part of the elite pathway to the AFL clearly isn't enough to stop a lot of stupid acts.

It's not just younger players. Jake Carlisle & Luke Hodge have been incredibly stupid recently and have basically gotten away with it. Many others too.

I can't argue but how arrogant is it for someone like Curnow to refuse a breath test at his age? The alarm bells must be ringing loud now about his character. There will be some highly dedicated youngsters just miss out on being drafted this year where at worst Curnow might just drop a couple of positions in the order.

As the Ox isn't exactly a Rhodes Scholar, I'd say he was filthy about it because he was a genuine chance to go to his beloved Demons.

It's mostly just kids these days. They are all bush lawyers who know all their rights and aren't afraid to argue them because they've done a year of legal studies at high school. I agree Curnow has had the extra direction and ecucation that should have seen him not do something as spectacularly stid as refuse a breath test. I understand it's your right to do its a stupid thing to do.
