Looks like we will be taking 3 players in the rookie draft this Friday. One pick likely to be used on Jed Adcock. So therefore 2 live picks.

    here is a small list of players overlooked from the national draft;

    Mabior Chol - 198cm ruckman
    Greg Clark - 194cm midfielder
Nick Coughlan - 195cm key defender
Nick Dodge - 182cm small forward
    Kyle Galloway - 208cm ruckman
Jesse Glass McCasker -196CM key defender
    Luke Goetz - 202cm ruckman
Will Hayes - 180cm small forward
    Darcy Macpherson - 175cm midfielder
    Callum Moore - 193cm forward
    Gach Nyoun - 200cm ruckman
    James Parsons - 189cm midfielder
    Dylan Smith - 198cm KP
    Reuben Willams - 182cm defender

there are many others of course but I thought these guys might be of interest.

I would go with Gach Nyuon and Darcy Mac. Looks like with the picks of Collins and Adams, Coughlan would miss out.

Reuben Williams and Callum Moore for me. Our need for ruck coverage is over stated IMO

Happy to overlook DMac as we're loaded with undersized mid/forwards.

A key position player and a speedster would be my preference.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

          Re: Rookie Draft 2015

Ten to watch in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft

Gach Nyuon Ruckman 201cm/81kg 19/3/97 Dandenong Stingrays
Nyuon was the All Australian ruckman this year after a strong national carnival for Vic Country, but was probably always more of a rookie chance than a shot in the national draft. That's because clubs don't tend to take many rucks in the national draft and Nyuon has some way to go developing a body that's ready for AFL. But his improvement across the year should appeal to a club who wants to give him a go.

          Reuben William Half-back 182cm/74kg 7/10/97 Zillmere/Brisbane Lions academy
It was a surprise no club took William at the national draft after his impressive season for the Lions academy. The attacking and combative half-back loves to tackle, uses the ball pretty well and plays with good spirit. From Sudan, William's speed and disposal stacks up well. As a member of the Brisbane Lions academy, the club is in a good position to take him on and add another local talent.

          Nick O'Kearney Midfielder 174cm/72kg 29/10/97 Calder Cannons
O'Kearney is a ball magnet who can use the ball well on both feet, pick up disposals at will and find targets. He was probably overlooked because of his size as a midfielder and he could probably hurt teams more with his disposal, but he's consistent and professional and does everything to keep improving his game.

Will Snelling Midfielder 176cm/75kg 6/8/97 West Adelaide
The small midfielder will be a rookie shot due to his ability to rack up possessions. He was a prolific member of South Australia's under-18 team at the national carnival and also captained the state during the under-18 championships. Snelling already has senior experience, too, having played 13 games at West Adelaide this season in the SANFL.

Darcy MacPherson Midfielder 174cm/72kg 29/10/97 Northern Knights
The Bulldogs declined the chance to nominate MacPherson as a father-son pick in the national and rookie drafts, but he should get a chance on Friday. Although short, MacPherson fights hard for the ball, averaged 21 disposals in eight games with the Northern Knights and can push forward to hit the scoreboard. He also performed well at VFL level for Footscray later in the season.

          Thomas Glen Half-back 187cm/72kg 7/5/97 Dandenong Stingrays
It was a bit of a surprise that Glen didn't get a chance later in the piece, because he showed some nice form across the season at half-back. He can play on a range of forwards and offers good run, speed and drive out of the backline. He was consistent across the season with the Stingrays and Vic Country and had some interest before the national draft.

Jesse Glass-McCasker Tall defender 196cm/95kg 3/1/97 Swan Districts
The West Australian tall defender will be a good chance to find an AFL home on Friday with clubs likely to be looking to add a key backman. Glass-McCasker is athletic, pretty quick and can shut down on opponents, and is reliable in one-on-one battles. At 196cm and 95kg he should be able to come in and play a role soon.

Sam Murray Midfielder 187cm/80kg 2/9/97 Wodonga Raiders
Murray had a number of clubs interested in him ahead of the draft after a strong season for the Wodonga Raiders in country Victoria. Clubs have spent more time on him in recent weeks as they assess him against other prospects, but he has speed, takes the game on an has a knack for kicking a goal. He is a draft smokey but he's definitely in the mix as a rookie.

James Parsons Midfielder 189cm/75kg 12/4/97 Eastern Ranges
Parsons' outside run and skill level might be enough to see him get a chance as a rookie despite an up and down season. The NAB AFL Academy graduate has speed and carries the ball, and can kick the ball long and with penetration. His physical makeup also makes him a player with promise, given he should be able to add some size if he gets into the system.

          Lachlan Tiziani Half-forward 188cm/80kg 13/3/97 Albury/GWS Academy
Tiziani tested exceptionally well at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, showing his strong leap and athleticism. That comes through in his game, too, with his overhead marking and bounce giving him a point of difference. The Giants will get first access to Tiziani, who is a member of the club's academy. All four of GWS' national draft recruits were members of its academy set up.

Did hear through the year we were keen on Hayes, but not sure if that's still current.

Should include Charlie Lee in the short list of possible Rookies. Has been invited to train with Dogs, along with Goetz, Adcock and Brayden Sier (since drafted by Collingwood). Lee is a 182/68 Utility/Half Back from Warrnambool and North Ballarat Rebels in TAC.

For mine, the most exciting small/mid is Rueben William who is developing fast as a player and would fit right in with our impressive core of young leaders - outstanding individual.

Otherwise, I'm all for the most promising young ruck, either Nyuon, Goetz or Galloway.

Also agree Callum Moore has something to offer at AFL level and could possibly be developed into a mobile CHF type, although wil take time.

Others who would potentially be useful are James Parsons (great talent, needs more consistency) and Nick Coughlan, who was good at Footscray last year and could be an AFL tall defender with a couple of preseasons and 10kg on his frame - would've been keener if not for Collins and Adams.

With so much talent available, do we pass on Adcock?

I am assuming that we have earmarked our final pick for Adcock. That puts the pick in the late 40s, even allowing for some passes before that pick there are still going to be at least 30-40 players gone before then. Probably not too much talent left by that stage.

I'm in the minority, but I would. Think Suckling gives us the experienced running defender/utility coverage. With Murphy, Boyd, Morris, Suckling, Wood as our highly experienced midsize/running defenders, it's gonna be hard to get the required development games into Webb/Dale/Cordy etc, let alone JJ, Biggs, Hamling, etc so don't see how Adcock adds to the scenario.

It would take a calamitous run of injuries to require the services of a mid/small defender further to all of the above (not to mention the likes of Picken, Stevens, Dunkley & Jong who may be worked into defensive rotations as midfield time becomes harder to claim).

Jeez our list is looking stacked.

I'd really like us to pick a ruck at one of our picks. We only have 3 on the list at the moment and Minson is more than likely in his last year. I've liked what I've seen of Nyoun, Galloway and Sullivan (I don't know anything about Goetz).

For our other pick Sam Murray and James Parsons appeal. I don't mind Tahana as a dependable lock down type as well, however I'm not sure he's the type we would go for.

I've counted out William since Brisbane have the rights to him, very low chance he will be available.
