The article on the website states we will have two curtain raisers at Etihad....one against Richmond round 4 and Werribee in round 10. If that's correct the fixture has an error in it for our Richmond match which states that our Richmond match is at Whitten Oval.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Great Friday Footy... VFL Bulldogs followed by AFL Bulldogs. FFC/WBFC making the day ours. That's the real story of resurrection.

Maybe Werribee have changed the name of their ground to VU Whitten Oval too?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Werribee has no home games this year as they are doing the oval up ..same with what happened to us when we were at willy one year. Ended up one game in Keilor . Very enjoyable though even though we got smashed by Ballarat.

From Footscray Bulldogs page on Facebook:

Footscray have signed Jayden Foster (son of Peter). Good to see him where he belongs.

Footscray have also signed ex-Bulldog Tom Young, as well as Matt Goodyear, Anthony Bruhn, Billy Gowers, Josh Patullo and Nick De Steiger.

Footscray have re-signed Jordan Russell, Anthony Barry, Lachlan Dalgleish, Alex Greenwood, Will Hayes, Nick Jamieson (who this page loves), Liam Nash, Jordan Staley, Andrew Tashevski-Beckwith, Josh Wallis and Shaun Wyatt.

What I could find on the new recruits (other than Foster and Young who we are already familiar with):

Matt Goodyear - was on Collingwood's list - 185cm midfielder.
Billy Gowers - was on Carlton's list - 186cm running defender.
                        Josh Patullo - Gippsland Power - 198cm Ruck/KPF/KPB
Anthony Bruhn - Frankston YCW - Forward. Has kicked 59 and 82 goals in the Peninsula league the past 2 seasons.
Nick De Steiger - Old Melburnians VAFA.

                            Re: Footscray Bulldogs Fixture 2017.

Experience the key to the future, says Grace

Footscray premiership captain Jordan Russell will lead the Bulldogs for a third consecutive year in 2017, with last year’s best and fairest winner having recommitted to the Club for the upcoming VFL season.

Russell is one of nine premiership players who re-signed during the offseason, the 30-year-old being joined by Anthony Barry, Lachlan Dalgleish, Alex Greenwood, Will Hayes, Nick Jamieson, Liam Nash, Jordan Staley and Andrew Tashevski-Beckwith.

Josh Wallis and Shaun Wyatt have also signed on.

Speaking to westernbulldogs.com.au, Footscray coach Steve Grace said that having experienced players around a young group is a key to their continued development.

“I think it’s crucial, Grace said.

“What you see is a changing of the guard and you don’t get that many older players playing, it’s very much a revolving door.

“So to have guys like (Russell) and ‘Bundy’ Barry out on the ground, to be able to coach their line out on the ground, is exactly what we were after.”

Grace filled a number of development coaching positions at Fremantle from 2011 to 2013 before moving to Collingwood in 2014 as Defence Development Coach, and then Assistant Coach – Forwards in 2015 and 2016.

He joined the Bulldogs in October, taking over the VFL coaching reigns from Ashely Hansen.

But Grace himself won’t be the only new face in Bulldogs colours when the side takes on Box Hill under lights at VU Whitten Oval in round one on April 14.

Among the new signees are 2014 premiership player Tom Young returning to the Kennel for a second stint after impressing in the NEAFL, and Jayden Foster, son of Peter, joining the Dogs after two years with Carlton.

Anthony Bruhn (Frankston YCW), Matt Goodyear (Collingwood), Billy Gowers (Carlton), Josh Patullo (Gippsland Power) and Nick De Steiger (Old Melbournians) have also joined the Club.

Grace will take over a side who claimed the 2016 premiership despite finishing fourth at the end of the home and away season.

“It’s an exciting proposition isn’t it,” he said of taking over a premiership winning side.

“It’s been an amazing start to join an organisation that has done remarkably well in a short period of time under Luke, and that is at VFL and AFL level.”

But as for how much of his own fingerprints will be on how the team plays, Grace says his focus will be on the continued development of the players.

“Look it’s an interesting question. I know Luke likes to support coaches who have their own ideas.

“[But] clearly the mantra of the VFL side is that our AFL-listed players are playing a like brand of football so when they step up they play a role, they play the exact same way that they are required, so it’s not really about me it’s about how well I can deliver the message and bring those players on.”

                              Re: Footscray Bulldogs Fixture 2017.

2014 Footscray premiership player Tom Young is one of seven new faces who’ll line up for the Bulldogs under new coach Steve Grace this season.

The 24-year-old Young had 19 touches and kicked a goal in the Dogs’ historic 2014 premiership, and will be joined by former Magpie Matt Goodyear, Anthony Bruhn, Billy Gowers, Josh Patullo, Nick De Steiger and Jayden Foster, son of former Bulldog Peter Foster.

Grace broke down each new signing for westernbulldogs.com.au.

                              Anthony Bruhn ((Frankston YCW)

“Anthony is from Frankston YCW which is where (2016 VFL premiership player) Anthony Barry is from.

“Anthony has been a successful player down on the Mornington Peninsula for a number of years.

“A school teacher by trade, 25 years old, around about 188cm forward, he kicked almost 70 goals in the Mornington Peninsula league in Frankston YCW’s successful season.

“He’s an exciting, experienced player to have on board.”

                              Jayden Foster (Carlton)

“Jayden spent two years on Carlton’s list, Jayden’s a very neat, great-sized player who runs very well.

“We’re looking forward to giving him a real run at it.

“He’s impressed me with his neatness and use so far. He’s a player who can play at either end – I know he trained at Carlton initially as a forward but played initially as a back for most of his time which suits us, because we like him to play rotating roles.”

                              Matt Goodyear (Collingwood)

“Matty is an outstanding young man with great character, he’s been at the Pies for the last two years before this, and had three tastes of senior football last year.

“He’s a qualiy inside midfielder who’s looking to express himself in other roles as well.”

                              Billy Gowers (Carlton)

“Billy Gowers has come onto us late and we’re wrapped to have him in our program. Billy’s an explosive, strong running back (who) played last year at Carlton as a rookie.

“They played him as a midfielder for a little bit, so he’s an inside mid, and as I said before he’s an explosive running back.”

Tom Young (ex- WB, Sydney University)

“Tommy Young, is a fantastic and very popular young man here at the Club having been involved in the previous premiership here.

“He’s had some real success at NEAFL level up in Sydney so we’re wrapped to get him to come back here, so Tommy played some successful footy in the NEAFL as an inside-mid but he can play strongly as a back as well”.

                              Josh Patullo (Gippsland Power)

“Played as a 19-year-old for Gippy and has tremendous upside and development in him as a Key forward/ruckman. Excellent hands and has shown positive improvement thus far already.”

                              Nick De Steiger (Old Melburnians)

“Strong and imposing at 199cm. Regarded as the best ruckman in Premier Division Amateurs in 2016.”

Footscray open their 2017 season at Victoria University Whitten Oval under lights on Friday, 14 April against Box Hill.
