Either Geelong are the most efficient, disciplined VFL team of all time or the umpires had an absolute mare.

      State league affiliate: Footscray (VFL)

This weekend: Footscray v Geelong - Saturday, May 20, 2.10pm, VU Whitten Oval

Dropped Dog Tom Liberatore is unlikely to receive an immediate senior recall after producing an underwhelming game for Footscray in the VFL on Saturday.

The out-of-favour premiership midfielder, whom coach Luke Beveridge revealed wasn't as "physically prepared" as he was last year, struggled to break the shackles against Geelong at Whitten Oval, finishing with just 21 touches in a 12-point loss.

Fellow premiership players Shane Biggs (27 disposals) and Toby McLean (25) thrust their names before selectors, while Mitch Honeychurch (20) and defenders Fletcher Roberts and Zaine Cordy worked hard.

Tim English finished with 15 touches and an equal game high 8 marks. Had 101 DT points for the game too.

Geelong put a bit of work into Liberatore today and made sure he wasn't able to run himself into some form.
It seems to me that we persevered with Libba's form lapse until Wally was available and then quickly made the decision to send him back to Footscray.

We won't see Libba back at AFL level for a few weeks. The VFL has its state match next week, then the AFL side has a bye. He's at least 3 weeks away from getting a recall, IMO.

If his fitness is a concern it might be a decent opportunity to up his running load and get in an intense block of training

It's time Libba got the asics on and got his fitness up .
It's unacceptable to be not as " prepared" as 12 months ago .

I saw this yesterday although being interstate I don't see that many VFL games but the few I do get to see on TV not much has changed.
But in saying all this and how the current senior line up is going why not give him a shot of a few games and see if he can hold a place.
If not the decision about his position on the list will be a bit easier come the end of the season.

How did people rate the games of Roughead and Campbell yesterday?

I only saw the game from middle of the third quarter, and thought Roughead did some good things, but still looked like he lacked some match fitness. Coming off the ground, he looked exhausted. In the last quarter he had some pretty good hitouts in the ruck which sparked the run of goals.

Campbell needs to do more if he wants to get back into the team, and I am starting to have my doubts about it.

What Rough did was good but there wasn't a whole heap of it. Fitness is clearly still a factor.

Seemed like Campbell spent 90% of his time forward with Rough and English rucking. He was anonymous except for a nice hanger on the wing.

It's tough seeing a spot on the list for Campbell next year. Bevo clearly doesn't rate his skill set and I'm not sure Tom has the ability to do much else.

I thought it was the best I've seen Campbell move for a fair while. He was good below his knees and took a a big mark and I didn't mind his game at all.

It's an interesting one with Roughead with Footscray basically having two byes in a row and the senior side having one in a couple of weeks. You get the sense that they may have to run the risk of playing him in the seniors against the Saints just to keep some continuity going.

This will be a consideration with Liberatore as well. I wonder if the gaps with his fitness can be addressed without playing

No question it's either first ruck or the back-up to the first ruck for Campbell and it's been that was for a couple of seasons now. I think we can use him in that role if we really want to.
