The state game is also on this weekend.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Thanks SP, i knew this week was a bye for round 7, but didn't realise the round 17 game has been brought forward. That is good news for senior players coming back from injury and getting some form.

Indeed. We really need this game to keep players ticking along.

Only saw brief glimpses of the game as footy isn't Paw Patrol, but from what I saw Lewis Young did a few nice things.. Did I only see the good bits or is progressing nicely?

Sounds like you may have seen a bit of the 3rd quarter - where he had a couple of good moments and kicked a goal. Not sure how much game time he got - we had so many tall players, that it would have been a nightmare to manage them.

He's pretty raw, but certainly throws himself at the marking contests when he has a chance.

Kicked 2 last quarter goals and gave off a couple of handballs that resulted in goals too. Promising.

Pleasing thing about Young is he is doing a little better each game I've watched (I've watched most of the VFL games this year). I'm guessing he is a pretty smart kid, albeit his skills are raw. I reckon defender might be a better position than forward for him and that's where we are playing him. I reckon all of the talls we brought in this year; NMM, Green & Young look really promising and of course English who many, incl. me, are predicting will be a v.v. good player. One thing I like about all of these players, and Lipinski, and Tweedie (from the little glimpse on weekend) they can all hold a decent mark and all seem pretty quick - something we are sadly lacking in a fair few of the seniors list. Regarding disposal skills I think NMM, Green and Lipinski look the goods too (too early to tell with Young & Tweedie).
                Josie :)

                Our day will come
                And we'll have everything.
                We'll share the joy
                Just like '54 again.

The way we were playing for the most part of the game wasn't great for giving talls many opportunities.
I think we basically conceded the first quarter that we weren't going to attack and just try and stop them scoring as many goals as possible and that cost them the game.

Back on topic I think Young looks the most naturally gifted of our young talls, in regards to the classic CHF high pack mark taking player. Probably needs to show a bit more aggression. Nathan M-McH shows enough of that but plays a little more small and whether it's just his lack of size holding him back at the moment i'm not sure but he'll need more time.
Tweedie for his first game was all at sea until he did a couple of things near the end. He's a strange looking player, gangly with no neck but can really jump.

I thought English was excellent and easily our best big man. Gets beaten in strength contests and isn't a natural Ruck but he is showing that he is developing in that area already. He showed he can read the ball in the air, can take a grab by floating in from the side or leading straight up, for a big man he isn't afraid to hold onto the ball or crack in and get it himself.
He's so versatile when he gets a bit more size he could play anywhere because he thinks and plays like a midfielder and not a ruckman.

I think Hamilton confirmed that he will never play senior footy. You wouldn't even know he was playing in that game until the very end where he made a small cameo when we were making a run and scoring more freely.
