We are looking like we are going to miss this premiership defence too.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I thought English did ok. He will only get better. My heart was in my mouth when Clay stayed down and then was limping. Half time came at the right time. Bevo's son gifted us a goal at the start of the game. Plenty of aggression in him.

Great smother in front of me from Bevo Jnr . Cold to freezing conditions .
Collingwood fielded a very experienced side, and I thought we did quite well .
Usual suspects played well I thought Bailey Williams was our best player .
Lynch did some nice things , his attributes are noticeable amongst the odd clanger .
English was super , and clay smith played with his usual vigour . One thing hasn't changed over the journey in pie fans being over feral. Collins picked up White and Keefe and was solid, as was Roberts . Boyd was excellent

Thanks for updates woofers. Sounds like Dogs battled hard all day. Pity that it seems Lynch is not advancing his cause. Russell seems like an inspirational leader. We need more who lead by example in seniors. How did Webb go?

Webb didn't play Josie . Might be a sneaky chance to come in, unless he's injured

                        Link

Footscray have fallen by five-points to Collingwood at Victoria Park on Sunday, in a thrilling finish that came down to the final kick of the day.

After trailing by 17-points at the final change, Footscray kicked three straight goals to level scores late in the final quarter, only for Collingwood to re-establish a six-point lead via a quick centre clearance and a Ben Crocker snap.

Inside the final minute, and with one last roll of the dice, the Bulldogs surged forward from their defensive half, with forward Anthony Bruhn marking 40m out with just seconds left on the clock.

Bruhn himself had already kicked two final quarter goals to aid the ‘Scray fightback.

Kicking as the final siren sounded to force a draw, Bruhn’s drop punt faded late to hit the post, handing the home side victory in a see-sawing encounter.

Along with Bruhn, Nick Jamieson (three goals) and Billy Gowers (two goals) were the other multiple goalkickers for the visitors, while Matthew Boyd was Footscray’s leading ball winner with 26 disposals.

Clay Smith showed his trademark grit to amass 22 touches along with 13 tackles, while 23rd man Tate Short was a dynamic option across half forward with 18 disposals and one goal.

While the closing stages proved thrilling, the opening three quarters reflected a see-sawing encounter.

Kicking the first three goals of the game, Footscray jumped to the early lead before the home side steadied to score two red-time goals to narrow the margin to six points.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with Lewis Young and Billy Gowers responding to an early second term goal to the Collingwood’s Josh Daicos, to extend the visitors advantage to 12-points.

Collingwood started to wrestle back control around the stoppages, creating repeat forward 50m entries and goals to Sam McLarty and Campbell Lane to see the home side hit the front for the first time in the match.

A late second quarter goal to Billy Gowers, his second for the term, helped Footscray to steady and carry a seven-point advantage in to the main break.

Out of the main break, the game was played on Collingwood’s terms as they kicked six goals to two to stretch the lead to 17-points at the final change -their largest margin for the game - before momentum swung Footscray’s way as they charged back at the Magpies in the last quarter.

The loss has Footscray move to seven wins and four losses for the season, and they’ll now set their sights on a match-up with Sandringham Zebras next Sunday afternoon at the Trevor Barker Oval.

My own thoughts from this afternoon's match...

English - had challenges in the ruck duels, but I thought his work outside of these duels today were exceptional for a lad his size. I remember thinking at one stage he was still an option for the AFL side this year if required.

Lipinsky - quieter game in terms of his impact. Have seen him play better games.

Collins - played well again today - still has a big turning circle, but seems to have more confidence both with his kicking and contested marking

Roberts - a funny game - got caught out a few times but at the same time was an important link player out of the full back line for us. Playing VFL with a high degree of confidence at present.

Smith - a real in and under game - played on the ball and threw himself into many contests. He did give away a silly free that led to a Collingwood goal at one stage. I think he is ready for an AFL recall (his pressure acts are up again).

Young - he is getting better each week albeit very slowly. With Campbell in the firsts he has played back up ruck to English. I have liked this role for him as it puts him into the play more. He is only 18 still, and having seen him play about 10 games now, I think he could develop into something in the years to come. I wouldn't play him at AFL level this year however - he is skinnier again than English.

NMM - love this guy's effort every week. He is a bit Zaine Cordy like so you know what you are going to get (built a bit like Zaine as well). On a couple of occasions today he flew for a contested mark, missed out but was then quick enough to tackle his opponent who got the ball. I can see us promoting him at years end and if anything, would be prepared to give him a crack at AFL this year if required.

Boyd - got a lot of the ball and was probably one of our best.

Williams - solid game - would have helped his cause for an AFL recall

Lynch - I'm still to be fully convinced about this guy long term - he is certainly a nice quick and very quick off the mark. I worry however that he can be easily knocked off the ball (not a big frame) and seems to go missing during quarters.

Hamilton - continues to do some nice things but I think he doesn't hurt the opposition enough with the amount of possessions he can accumulate.

Tweedie - some nice touches but looks very raw still.

Prudden - got thru the game without an injury....worked hard initially across half back and later thru the midfield. Honest workhorse.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Liking the sound of NMM. 196cm, speed (according the the club bio) and 'Zaine like competitiveness' all sound like a good foundationfor a KPP at either end of the ground.

Interesting bit of play where I think Collins has improved .
He allowed the ball out the back on a contest in an open forward line ( no great shock these days)but managed to recover the situation. He looks slimmer and more mobility . Think he's getting there
