Has anyone mentioned that Bendigo had six players drafted?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Anyone keen to go way too early and say who won the draft?
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Those with the most toys and the odd steal will get the plaudits, a rational person waits a couple of years.

We are all contractually obliged to say the Essendon win the draft and trade period every year - it's the only thing they ever 'win' these days

Having a quick look I think a few clubs got some great value, Geelong with L Fogarty, Kelly, Constable and Miers particularly with where their selections were was a great outcome. The selections have some risk and will take development but Kelly can play, Constable and Miers proved their credentials consistently and Fogarty will be a dynamo up front.

GWS with Bonar, Daniels and Taylor did very well. Some serious speed and agility and Taylor should develop into a solid defender.

Hawks again got 3 highly credentialed players late and would be very happy.

Richmond too had a interesting blend and will be keen to see how the talls they picked up develop.

Richmond's 2017 game plan is not a sustainable one for long term success IMO - they cashed in brilliantly getting the jump on everyone this year (like we did the year before with the handball club) but hack kicks into F50 with one key forward and a bunch of defensive-minded midgets won't work next year. Looks like some clubs last night followed the Richmond blueprint while they went in a different direction.

                    Re: Draft Night General discussion

I know there are plenty on WOOF, who watch the talent closely for an extended period, but how can anyone really know who has done well until we see the draftees actually play.

With all due respect to those who do follow it closely, they are still less informed than those that made the actual selections.

While it is an interesting discussion anyone of the draftees could be a star or a crab. Time will tell.

That's how I see it GD and I would add the Swans who only had minimum selections but landed 3 good players. Richmond did exceptionally well.

I really love the way we draft. We don't seem to be swayed by group think. We draft late bloomers on an upward trajectory and/or guys we think are unders due to group think obsessing over a glaring deficiency. All with a 'good attitude' prerequisite.

It's basically 'athletic type who really came on during the latter half of the season..' or 'excellent at contested ball, captained his side, however issues with his kicking style...'.

Not having a third or fourth round selection in this draft hurt our ability to capitalise on some good talent that fell late.
