Another notable recruit to the VFL in 2025. Believe Footscray Bulldogs have signed Carlton 58-gamer David Cunningham.

I think his career was largely ruined by injury. Apparently Sydney thought enough of him to do a medical post season. Will be a good get for Footscray if true.

Thats a real good get for Footscray if true . Cunningham missed 685 days between games of football, missing the entire 2022 season then copping a shoulder injury pre season in 2023, so even though his 27 his body has not been put through much football , a very handy footballer when going .

I like Cunningham when he is fit and able to play. If we get games out of him this year I wouldn't even be surprised to see him as a MSD option for someone (doesn't really fit the AFL list needs as a small half forward, but there is a role for a fit Cunningham at an AFL club).

Just looked it up, yikes - never played over 12 AFL games in a season, over his 9 seasons.

Hopefully we can nab a few decent talls for Footscray too. With Marra's status, if Croft were to play in the AFL, we are currently a bit light on for talls especially in the forward half. I remember watching a few games last season when Croft was injured and it was mid sized Bedendo as the key target or resting ruck / Gardener as the focal point.

Agree, the VFL team has been light on for talls over the past couple of years. We should really have another developing ruckman as well as Smith or a mature ruckman ready to step in, in case Tim is injured.

They did have a young ruck in Cameron Owen (delisted from Sydney) last season but by all reports he wasn't very good.

I haven't seen that. I must try and find it

I believe Trent Bianco is going to play for Box Hill Hawks
Ewan MacPherson is going to play for North
                          Chance Doultree for Casey

Former Sydney-listed ruckman Cameron Owen has signed with Victorian local club Frankston YCW for the 2025 season. That was reported by MITCH KEATING , on November 16th 2024 on Zero Hanger. Now im thinking that his signed with Frankston YCW , for the games his not pick to play for Footscray , not sure but i think that the case , so his re signed with Footscray but if he dosnt get picked , he can go back and play with YCW.

Frankston YCW should have access to him quite a bit based on last year. Very underwhelming

This is what we have been looking for

Former Coburg and Williamstown onballer Liam Hunt is likely to make a VFL comeback with Footscray Bulldogs.

Hunt left the league after the 2022 season, signing off from Willy. He’s been a dominant player with North Heidelberg, his long-time home club, for the past two seasons.

Hunt won a best and fairest and VFL team-of-the-year honours at Coburg and joined Williamstown in 2019.

His cousin Ethan plays with Footscray and the Hunts are also cousins with Western Bulldogs champion Marcus Bontempelli.

Footscray Bulldogs have added another more mature recruit in Ballarat league top-liner Bailey Medwell, from Sebastopol.

He had 41 disposals, 21 contested possessions and 13 clearances in a match last season.

“He’s a powerful midfielder on the inside but he’s got some really good run on the outside,’’ Sebastopol coach and former North Ballarat player Tony Lockyer told CODE Sports.

“He converts from an inside mid to outside very quickly, bursts from a stoppage and provides some really good run and carry. He’s a very powerful runner. He put on a fair bit of size in the previous few years and he’s got a really good physique.’’

He said Footscray VFL premiership coach Chris Maple recommended Medwell to the club.

The Bulldogs have signed two Western Jets graduates, Xavier Kardachi and Kane Sexton, the son of former leading Port Melbourne forward Danny. Both played senior football last year, Kardachi in Sunshine’s premiership and Sexton with Yarraville Seddon Eagles.

Footscray has also secured former NGA member Riely Collins, an inside midfielder who made his senior debut for Redan last year and was also with the Sandringham Dragons as he attended Caulfield Grammar.

Best and fairest Cooper Craig-Peters, Dan Orgill, Phoenix Spicer, Cameron Owen, Ethan Hunt, Jarrod Gilbee, Josh Kellett, Billy Crofts, Tommy McRae, Tristan Maple, Bailey Young, Diesel Moloney and Chan Hargraves are all returning to the Dogs.
