Hynes looked really good. The only thing holding Hynes back is his tank. Not sure what role he would play if his tank isn’t developed. The high half forward spot requires a lot of unrewarded running. It’s going to be interesting to see what player he develops into.
Thought Jacques was good. I think he will play afl in 4-5 weeks. Half back is a position of need and he will improve from the first hit out. He also probably played managed minutes given it was his first game.Comment

People expect a bit too much from key defenders early I think, Rance for example was genuinely one of the worst players in the league at Buss’ age and became one of the greatest defenders of all time. There’s a heap of similar stories out there, they just take time.
I think he’ll be a really great key defender at 25 years old, just hope he sticks around with us for us to reap the rewards not another club. Got every thing he needs to make it, great head on his shoulders, reads the play really well, has an attacking mindset and likes to run and spread and offer an option offensively with a raking long kick (although was poor by foot yesterday), good hands, good one on one (just weak)
I think his game translates better to AFL level than VFL levelComment

Really excited for Hynes, you can tell pretty early when someone’s just got ‘it’, have only seen a bit but it’s just the little moments when he’s around the ball, just really love his attributes and what he projects as.
Think long term he’s a big bodied burst mid with some toe, class & composure and genuine forward craft too. Love the way he moves around stoppages, always on his toes and looks threatening to break lines -Think he’s in this side in the fwd line for the 2nd half of the season, only thing holding him back right now is his tankComment

He could start in the seniors playing a SPP-style forward role ( should I say - DFA / Mitch Wallis / Clay Smith type role?)
He's already fending off adults at VFL level and he's really clean with his hands, a one-touch player.Western Bulldogs: 2016 Premiers👍 2Comment

If he is good just get him in. We carrying too many that arent up to it regardless of what position they play. We have no forwards except for Darcy so there are 5 spots there. All the other "forwards" are ex midfielders or ex defenders. Thats why we have no forward craft at stoppages or crumbing Darcy.Comment

He is clearly better than the rest of the VFL team so if he not going to make it, then the others wont transition. Makes a couple of errors but the boys that played last night made many errors too so he shouldnt be too harshly judged.Comment

My concern is the metres gained component to his game., He's pretty decent on the switch but he's less effective when he has to get the ball moving directly forward.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"👍 1Comment

He will take time at league level to pick up the speed of game. Id also expect a few errors with his ball use.Comment

I’m not sure if his ready to make the leap to seniors just yet. I believe in time he will be good enough as the improvement has been linear. His one on one work this year seems to be much better than year 2.

He gets a lot of the footy but he moves it left or right rather than down the ground and for me that might work at the VFL level but its questionable if that works well at the senior level.👍 1Comment
