Port vs Footscray 13 May 2018

    Port Melbourne 15.12-102
    Footscray 10.9-69

Best: Trengove, Hayes, Roberts, English, Panayi

Goals: Schache 3, English, Greene, Trengove, Jong, Nash, Roughead, William

It was a cold day with a little bit of wet but not with a strong wind. The centre
of the ground was quite muddy and myself and a mate will be going there after the
game to see if we can get any yabbies.

For the first half of the match it looked good for us with a likelyhood of a win.

But Port proved to be faster, had better team play and were generally classier.
We probalbly had the better big men. After the rain came and went Port's better
teamwork and desire to win eventually won them the match. On several occassions
Robin Nahas (32 possessions), who always seems to haunt us, stopped many of
our forward thrusts, staying a kick behind the play. Often Port had men running
past to take a handball and more often kicked accurately into their forward line.
We looked like a rabble in the last quarter with Port seemingly able to do as they wished.

The umpiring didn't seem to be fair at all. It seemed as though the umpires saw
every single infringement for Port but they missed plenty for us. For example,
pushes in the back, holding the ball, interference in marking duels and throws.

Tom Campbell: I sat next to his parents during the match. Tom once again proved
to be a first quarter specialist kicking a nice goal in the first quarter then
disappearing for the rest of the game. He did some ruckwork late in the game,

Tim English: Kicked 1 goal and missed one he should have got. One shot came from
a mark that just speared into his chest, the other from a mark as a leading
forward. Had 5 marks and 11 disposals and 30 hit outs. Some of those hit outs were
beautiful too, problem is that Port took them away. Also he got first hand to
ball in many marking contests but didn't hold onto the ball.

Jackson Trengove: Kicked a goal and played as a midfielder at centre bounces. He
had 21 disposals in all and took a few high marks. Made a good start but faded a
bit. Possible call up to the seniors.

Lin Jong: Kicked a nice long goal. Got himself covered in mud. But Will Hayes
was the muddiest. Had 23 disposals and 10 tackles but even so, his skills were
not polished up too well again today. No seniors for Jong please.

Fergus Greene: Kicked 1 goal and missed one. Shows some skills but might take a
while. Possible delisting material if he doesn't start showing more.

Shane Biggs: He only played half a game as he was required as an emergency for
the seniors he but still wasn't the Shane Biggs of old

Josh Schache: Kicked 3 Goals, only had a junior as an opponent. He needs more
experience. Hopefully that will fix his game that looked a bit brittle to me.

Jordan Roughead: One goal and 22 hit-outs taking some good marks around the ground.
Possible call up to the seniors.

Fletcher Roberts: Had a marking battle with Port's Jordan Lisle and probaly came
out square.Typical Roberts game but with not much help on the backline.
    14 disposals and 6 marks.

Nathan Mullenger-McHugh: Seems to me as though he has shown some improvement
but not enough to get him off my delist list. He took some good marks. He needs
    to bulk up fast.

Callum Porter: Doesn't seem to have anything to recommend him. What did they
see in him to draft him? He isn't a tall guy, his isn't fast, he isn't nimble.
Maybe he will show something next week.

Roarke Smith: He was one of our better players in the first half when we were
going well, but faded in the second half (same as last week).

Rueben William: Kicked a goal. Looks like he has stopped trying to take the
world on. In this match he never got caught trying to run off with the ball.
    His best match.

Liam Nash kicked a goal and did some hard work but was caught out for pace.

Will Hayes: 28 disposals and Mr Muddyman for the day.

Tashevski-Beckwith: 21 disposals and a good game from him.
