Jeez, nervous times in the last. It was a 32 minute quarter & Coburg kept coming!
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

And we all found heaven - 2016 Premiers!

Just great relief. It would have been cold out there today. The coldest ground probably would be the one at Williamstown.

For me Hayes and Reuben Williams were standouts. Even if Reuben does not have ball he is competitive. I think we should definitely rookie him. Greene and Campbell good early on. Prudden reliable. Porter showed some grit. NMM got better as game went on but still looks so slight. Jong had some good moments but not up to his stellar standards of a few years ago. Young not so good today. Roberts kicked two early goals. Lynch - did not get much of the ball, one good tackling effort in last quarter. Dunkley - cannot recall him getting much of it and looks slow. Adams looks like he is still finding his feet but at least he is not injured again. Collins dislocated finger early on but fought out game well.

Would like Campbell and Greene and maybe Jong to be elevated.

Wallis (Josh) has good hands in close and decent kick. Looks slow though. Roughy looks shadow of 2016 self. Is Hayes worth a rookie or late pick? Possibly-I think his skills might go ok in seniors. Smart footballer.

Agree with Josie's comments on individual AFL listed player's form this afternoon and that the better players for the Scray were probably the VFL listed players..

              Some personal thoughts:
              1. I'd be reluctant to elevate Greene yet - tends to play well for a half and then disappears.
              2. I'd like Young to start going for marks versus always playing the defensive punch - particularly at VFL level and at this stage of the season and his own development.
              3. Jong put in a shocker and would be pretty disappointed with his game regardless of what his stats might say post game
              4. I didn't think anyone deserved elevation from this afternoon's game to the AFL team, but suspect someone will need to go up to cover injuries

On a very different note, there was a number of AFL listed players at the game supporting the VFL boys.

My thoughts - they both had up and down games. I’d be surprised if they didn’t do well in the hit out stats as the Coburg ruckmen were more broad than tall. I would have liked them to take more marks than they did considering the opposition. Both had a couple of ordinary snap shot attempts at goal. Campbell did kick a goal, but it was helped with a 50 metre penalty. I might be a little tough with my assessment and others might offer a different perspective.

Would it be worth giving Campbell a go now in the seniors?

Just noticed the Bulldogs website has Jong as BOG - didn’t see it that way myself - I don’t doubt his endeavour today but there is no value in winning the hardball then coughing it up.

Depends on whether we need that second ruckman against North ie match ups. However, maybe it’s time to see him in the AFL to assist with end of year player reviews. This would extend to Greene as well I suspect.

Yeah very often the match report bests don't necessarily match up to our thoughts on the best players in the game.

                                Re: Round 11 - 2018 Footscray Bulldogs v Coburg

I was at the game - was pretty impressed by Greene for the first time ever and would not mind giving him a crack in the firsts. Moved really well and has something to him. Not to sub-tweet you or anything Smads but I thought his involvement was better than patchy.

Jong was not our best player and put in something of a compromised effort which was not something I ever expected to see out of him.

We have to pick up Reuben William, he was our best player, and unlike most of the guys on our actual list can carry the ball and then kick it to people on the same team as him.

Campbell looked fantastic in the ruck and should play next week. Did seem to be immensely frustrated by some short prick for Coburg and gave away a pretty undisciplined 50m penalty in the 3rd quarter but I'd attribute it to whatever started that aforementioned scuffle. His tap work was excellent.

Put a line through Roughead. Ditto Lynch, who was playing like a guy who'd already told he's been chopped and was not taking the game particularly seriously.

Adams up forward doesn't work and is a perfect example of our too clever by half approach to player development. He had no ceiling as a key defender yet has been thrown to the goal square where he is altogether too reactionary and plays from behind because that's what he knows and is good at. Also gives him no room to use his beautiful kicking. He couldn't have looked less dangerous and needs to be played at full back. If we're going to try anyone up forward then I'd be more inclined to see how Young looks down there.

As an aside, shout-out to Marcus Bontempelli - most of the senior list was at the game, but Bont was hanging around well after the final siren, taking photos with any kid or adult who came up and asked, all with a smile on his face. Just another example of him being a perfect human being and we are still beyond lucky to have him.
