Round 13 - 2018 Footscray Bulldogs v Northern Blues
Re: Round 13 - 2018 Footscray Bulldogs v Northern Blues
My initial thoughts on the game (which was scrappy in places), was a pretty even contribution across the board from both the AFL and VFL listed players.
Hayes, Tashevski-Beckwith, Prudden and Wallis worked hard all day from the VFL side of things and William had a good second half.
Thought Roughead was the best big man on the ground and was up against Lobbe, so the opposition was AFL standard if you like. Campbell's game was ok.
Greene and NMM a bit quiet today compared to last couple of weeks but each managed important goals.
Dad got a lot of the ball and would be building up his confidence I am sure.
Lewis Young got a lot of it as well and played well defensively, but still turned the ball over a couple of times when not under pressure and does tend to be slow to get rid of the ball when under pressure - needs to work on that, however the experience on the backline was minimal today and i am sure in an AFL environment with Morris etc around, he would be more efficient. Another solid game from him at the end of the day.
Roberts got three goals but he just doesn't seem to work hard enough for a forward (I think Schache works harder and he is much younger). Nonetheless he kicked important goals in the game. He is an accurate kick.
I thought Porter was better than HC on the day in the battle of the smaller AFL midfielders.
Biggs didn't play and VFL listed player Nash was also not playing, so winning the game (albeit against the bottom side), was a great result for the team.
On a sidenote - there was a major altercation in the game in the second qtr with some players really being roughed up by their opponents. I was sitting high up in the Heatley Stand and a woman just in front of me (one of the Blues player's mother), stood up with her umbrella in hand and was determined to race down onto the ground and protect her son from the melee. it was quite an impressive performance from her I thought! Fortunately no-one was hurt in the melee and the game progressed.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Great to hear Dad is building up his game from week to week. I'd love to have a look at him in the seniors before the year is out.

Yep. Would love to see Greene and NMM get a go before the year is out also. Lynch's encouraging debut is a reminder that you don't have to be dominant at VFL level to be useful at AFL level. We need to give these guys a go at AFL level before list management decisions are made at the end of the year.
The Footscray Bulldogs have secured another win, defeating the Northern Blues by six points helped by three second quarter goals from Fletcher Roberts, on Saturday at Ikon Park.
After a powerful first half, the Dogs fought to claim the narrow victory over the home side, after the Blues made a charge in the third term and almost caused an upset.
Roberts was particularly influential, collecting 12 disposals and kicking three of the Dogs’ ten, while co-captain Angus Monfries complemented Roberts’ efforts in the forward line, booting one major of his own.
Ruckman Jordan Roughead enjoyed a strong game, claiming 33 hitouts, one goal and five tackles, while Fergus Greene (10 disposals, three marks) and Nathan Mullenger-McHugh (14 disposals, 2 tackles) were a handy pair in the forward line for a second week running, booting a goal each.
Will Hayes (31 disposals, five tackles), Mitch Honeychurch (14 disposals, six tackles) and Callum Porter (15 disposals, two tackles) were dynamic in the midfield, while Kieran Collins (15 disposals, nine marks) held strong in defence, taking two all-important marks in the final term to help seal the game.
The Dogs head back to Etihad Stadium next week to take on Box Hill at 3:20pm, before the Western Bulldogs home game against Hawthorn.

For sure PP. Need to give them a go. Good opportunity and as you said Brad Lynch had a great debut last night.
