Re: Round 18 - 2018 Footscary Bulldogs v Franskston
First thing to note is the opposition's ranking in the VFL - Frankston are 2nd last with a % of 48, so Dogs were going to be favourites to the win the game - it was just going to be by how much.....
Young - played back and forward and got his 2 goals (has become a swingman at this level). He (and Collins) dropped a couple of easy marks which shouldn't have been dropped, otherwise a serviceable game. Would still like to see him take defensive marks versus always going with a defensive punch. Needs to improve his disposal also.
Roberts - one of the better players across the back half. In windy conditions, held onto most of his marks as he should at his level/against this opposition
HC - played just the half (emergency for AFL game). Tried hard, but just doesn't impact the game at this level as he did in 2017.
Biggs - probably amongst Dogs best. Plenty of possessions to 3/4 time. Moved fwd in the last qtr - not an ideal position for him and it showed even at this level.
Porter - although he may not have had a lot of possessions for a midfielder, I liked his game. He was hard around the contest and ran all day. Wouldn't mind seeing him get a game in the AFL team, but only if we have a full quota of midfielders around him.
Collins - serviceable game across half back. I think he'd be happy with his game. Altho he dropped a couple of easy marks, he also held onto a couple of good contested grabs.
NMM - never really gets a lot of possessions, but always up for the scrap. Snapped a good last qtr goal. Played second ruck when English resting. Not sure what the club will do with him come season's end.
English - solid game in the ruck and around the ground. Just continues to impress at this level. Two goals and could've had a third - all from strong marks leading out from the goal square area.
William - has been a bit sloppy with his handling of the football of late - not so keen on him at the moment
Hayes - quietest game for some time. Overheard his parents talking about him having a minor back injury, so might have curbed his influence today.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.
Re: Round 18 - 2018 Footscary Bulldogs v Franskston
Great summary smads- wholeheartedly agree. I just do not see why we persevere with HC-at either level. Porter tackles well, would be interesting too see how he would go in seniors. NMM and Young’s goal in last quarter were beauties. Williams not a patch on his earlier form this year and he missed two gimme goals from my memory. Still got those long arms and legs that seem to enable unlikely tackles etc., just a pity he has not continued his upward trajectory. Still a few games for him to rediscover his mojo.
The Footscray Bulldogs have made their way back onto the winners list, defeating Frankston by 42 points, this Saturday.
The Footscray Bulldogs have made their way back onto the winners list, after a four goal performance from Angus Monfries saw the ‘Scray defeat Frankston by 42 points, this Saturday at Victoria University Whitten Oval.
An impressive first half saw the Dogs boot eight majors, including two handy goals from developing ruckman Tim English (10 disposals, three marks), giving the home side a three goal lead at the main break.
A quiet third term saw Co-captain Angus Monfries kick his second major, before a powerful fourth quarter saw the ‘Scray push the margin to 42 points, ultimately sealing the win.
Midfield duo Will Hayes (24 disposals, three tackles) and Mitch Honeychurch (15 disposals, three tackles) performed well all over the ground, while Shane Biggs (22 disposals, five marks) and Fletcher Roberts (16 disposals, four marks) proved handy in the back line, keeping Frankston to a goalless fourth term.
Lewis Young (17 disposals, two tackles) was particularly influential, booting two goals after a permanent move forward at quarter time, while Andrew Panayi (13 disposals, five marks) also kicked two majors of his own.
Nathan Mullenger Mc-Hugh (one goal, 13 disposals) shared ruck duties with Tim English, amassing 36 hit outs between them.
Footscray will take on North Melbourne, next Sunday at Avalon Airport Oval from 2pm.
