Re: Round 2 – 2019 -Footscray Bulldogs v Collingwood
Didn't get the chance to make the following comments post game due to AFL match looming.
Woofers will have seen possession stats in a previous post, so my comments are more around how I thought the players used those possessions. Also note, the opposition really didn't put up much of a fight....
Webby seems to be a different player (both last week and this week) and shows no discomfort from his neck injury. I'm not sure what it is, but he just looks a bit bigger and certainly plays with a lot of confidence and took some strong grabs on the night.
Boyd looked very slow/scratchy and I don't remember him taking a mark, but I think the idea was to simply have him on the park and as the opposition was ordinary, his own performance didn't impact the rest of the team. He was given a coupe of runs in the ruck and I suspect he enjoyed that opportunity better than being 'chained' to the goalsquare (NB the Collingwood ruck was a rookie, hence our overall ruck dominance in this game)
Gardner played forward all night with the resting ruckman (combination of all three of Trengove, Sweet and Boyd). He got a nasty bump mid second quarter that seemed to keep him quiet for the rest of that quarter and the third, before he got back into the game in the last qtr.
Lynch played easily his best game - seemed to have a licence to run up and down the ground. In a couple of passages of play he was kicking to a player then taking the ball back 50 metres up the ground such was his run. He looked sharp and my own thoughts were he relished not being tied to the forward half.
Trengove just smashed it...my BOG. Not only in the ruck but around the ground.
Lipper was again the man for all occasions - I suspect he may have been taken off at 3/4 time to act as an emergency for the main AFL game as I don't remember seeing him (other Woofers at the game may have noticed otherwise).
Dale played an improving game over the week before - probably another couple of weeks away from his best, but I enjoyed the prospect of what he brings (good kick and mark). Pity the VFL team has a bye next week.
Both Youngs played a strong game across half back although Lewy mucked up a couple of times, but he had the tough job on Ben Reid which I liked (i.e. playing AFL level forward). As for Roberts - well Collingwood just seemed to pick him out all the time when they went forward it seemed. Solid contributor.
West was a little quiet again this week - I felt Porter played the better midfield game (both were simply overshadowed by Lipper, Webb however). Liking Porter - much improved and better team player in his second year. Unfortunately he isn't fast, so doesn't add that real outside run we need at AFL level.
Roarke not as dominant as the previous week and a couple of times tried to 'overdo it' and got caught, but can't fault his effort.
Hayes not as busy as the first week, but still contributed to what was clearly a good team game by everyone on the park.
Sweet not called upon to do much (Trengove must have rucked for 75-80% of game) but kicked a nice goal in the last.
Green was presenting and getting a few touches before coming off with leg injury (reported as broken somewhere). I seen him leave the ground area at 3/4 time and he was in tears. His ankle was in what looked like a moon boot or some such thing and he was on crutches.
Jongy just got better as the match progressed - still some weeks from his best however.
Finally Bailey Williams - played a more consistent game this week - certainly got plenty of it and was used as an outlet player from defence. Would just like to see his kicking efficiency go up a couple of notches. Can't be far away from a senior recall along with Trengove (if required) or Lipper.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Thanks for the comprehensive update Smads57. Agree that is a real pity we have the bye this week as those players coming from injury all desperately need another run to push for selection.
Re: Round 2 – 2019 -Footscray Bulldogs v Collingwood
AFL website today:
Lukas Webb impressed in his second game back from a serious neck injury, finishing with a team-high 28 disposals, 10 marks and two goals. The midfielder was instrumental in the 72-point win over Collingwood, along with versatile big man Jackson Trengove, who played an all-round game in the ruck to have 26 hit-outs, 26 disposals, eight marks and two goals. Trengove is yet to break through for a senior game this year. Lin Jong marked his return from a hamstring injury suffered a month ago with 21 touches, seven marks and a goal. Key forward Tom Boyd was quiet in his return from a long-term back injury, playing limited minutes and finishing with four disposals. Forward-turned-midfielder Pat Lipinski (20 touches) and backman Bailey Williams (22 touches and 10 marks) also impressed. Fergus Greene suffered a leg injury in the third term and did not return.

Footscray has sent an ominous warning to its VFL rivals after demolishing Collingwood at Olympic Park on Friday night.
The Bulldogs won every quarter for the second straight week to claim a 72-point victory, backing up their Round 1 triumph over Sandringham.
The 17.10 (112) to 6.4 (40) win was set up by a 12-goal-to-two first half with returning AFL-listed stars Bailey Williams, Jackson Trengove and Lin Jong having a strong impact.
First-year coach Daniel Giansiracusa couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.
“We’ve got off to a flyer, which is fantastic,” he said.
“We made a good start again, we knew Collingwood were going to come but we were able to stop their momentum every time.
“We won every quarter for the second straight game, so I’m a pretty pleased coach.”
Footscray was deadly accurate in the first half, kicking 12.4 to half-time before the Magpies were able to slow their scoring in the second half.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, Giansiracusa said there were plenty of lessons to take from the win.
“(Collingwood) had their moments but we were able to hold them and I think that will hold us in good stead when we get into closer games later in the season,” he said.
“The best part of football is the 10 minutes after the match, enjoying the win with each other … but my message was there’s still plenty of growth in this team.”
Lukas Webb was a standout through the midfield with 28 disposals, 10 marks and two goals.
Trengove finished with 25 touches, 26 hit-outs and two goals in the ruck while Jong added 21 and seven marks and Boyd played limited minutes in his return from a back injury.
Williams bounced back after being dropped from the AFL side with 22 disposals and 10 marks while young forward Pat Lipinski also put his hand up for a senior recall with 20 possessions and a goal.
Giansiracusa was impressed with Webb’s continued development.
“Lukas, you talk about strong starts to the season,” he said.
“He’s having a real influence through the midfield and he’s learning to deal with the physicality and taking those hits and becoming a leader.”
The Bulldogs have a bye in Round 3 before facing Williamstown on Sunday, April 28.

Add my thanks alongside all the others Smads. Reading your match report is one of the footy highlights of my week.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
