Delisted Cat training with Eagles in bid to revive AFL career
WEST Coast's wide search for a small forward has reached former Cat Jamaine Jones.
The Eagles have already auditioned delisted Blue Jarrod Pickett, ex-Docker Brady Grey and state league footballers Nicolas Reid and Isaya McKenzie as part of the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
AFL.com.au understands Jones will start training there next week, with Grey and Reid also still pushing their case alongside the listed West Coast players.
Pickett is no longer training with the Eagles and is out of the race, while South Australian McKenzie's hopes ended when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in January.
Jones managed seven games across three seasons for Geelong before being cut in September but attracted some interest from North Melbourne and Carlton.
That interest didn't translate to an AFL lifeline for the 21-year-old, who had committed to play for the Western Bulldogs' VFL affiliate Footscray this season.
Jones had also nominated Geelong Football League club Lara for when he wasn't playing for the VFL Bulldogs.
However, he now has another opportunity to revive his AFL career if he can impress before the SSP deadline closes next month.
Jones' VFL form was good last season – he averaged almost a goal and five tackles – but he was starved of senior opportunities behind Gary Ablett, Luke Dahlhaus, Gary Rohan and Tom Atkins.Comment

Exciting talent added to Footscray playing squad
A number of fresh faces have been added to the Footscray playing list as the 2020 VFL season inches closer.
The Bulldogs have welcomed a mix of exciting AFL, NAB League and local footy talent ahead of the Bulldogs’ first practice match against Williamstown next month.
“There’s some guys that probably no-one really knows about yet, but I’m sure they will by the end of the year,” Giansiracusa said.
“Because the rules have changed surrounding the 19-year-old and 23rd player spot, we’ve sort of targeted that area so we can use guys and enhance their development.
“Dan Orgill, Josh Kellett, Lachie Stevens and Charlie Cormack are some who have shown a lot on the training track, and will definitely fight for spots as the year goes on.”
Jamaine Jones (Geelong AFL) and Jesse Glass-McCasker (Carlton AFL) are another two who have impressed the second-year coach, despite the former Blue breaking his hand in the Bulldogs’ AFL match simulation.

- Daniel Giansiracusa, Footscray head coach
“Jamaine has gone over for a trial with West Coast, but we’ll happily take him back if he doesn’t get that opportunity on an AFL list – he’s someone that can really add to our group in that forward-line/midfield area, brings elite pressure and definitely knows where the goals are.
“Unfortunately Jesse broke his hand pretty early (in the match simulation), so we were pretty devastated with that, but he should be right to go for Round 1 VFL.
“He’s got a good tank and is athletically fit, and can play either back-line, forward-line or in the ruck which will depend on what’s available from an AFL list point of view. We’re looking for some good things from him.”
Newly named vice-captain Anthony Scott, who also featured in the AFL match simulation session, is excited about the group this season.
“We’ve got a pretty young list this year with a few fresh faces as well – Dan Orgill is looking nice and fit considering he’s just a year or so out of school, Lachie Sullivan has come back in pretty good nick, Austin Hodge is looking good and Jarrod Gilbee has been training well too,” Scott said.
“We’ve got a few guys that have come into the pre-season carrying injuries, but those boys are really positive in the rehab group too.”
Footscray will get its first taste of the 2020 VFL competition when it meets Williamstown in a practice match at 1pm on Saturday, March 7 at VU Whitten Oval.Comment

Re: Footscray Football Club List News 2020
The only similar sort of case I can think of is Darcy Mac and he went in the rookie draft that year. So my answer is I'm not sure. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

I presumed that having passed on him in the national, and rookie draft he now would be fair game for highest bidder in mid season or next national or rookie draft.Comment
