      No crowds, no games.

I wonder how fanatical players might be to returning? There will undoubtedly be no pay and it carries a higher risk of contacting the virus. Training might be one thing but playing is more of a gamble.

Interesting to see how they will police spectators, will it be the clubs responsibility to tell people to move on or will the local plod attend each game.

Most clubs will still be paying at this stage. Only leagues with an irresponsible cost model will be massively impacted financially by the current situation. There should be zero outgoings to this point of the season so clubs should still be able to pay a reduced amount.

Games are due to start in late July/early August. They won’t go ahead if it’s not safe to have crowds, realistically there is just as big a crowd at the local park on some Saturdays anyway. I reckon the call will be made in late June based on progress with the virus.

The Eastern & Northern Metro leagues have pulled the pin on the 2020 season.

If the State Government don't provide some clarity soon all leagues will likely go this way unfortunately.

I wonder how close to returning indoor sports are? Nobody bothers to come and watch so policing how close supporters stand to each other is the last thing we will need to worry about.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I played a practice match the week of NRL Round 1, so the last day before ScoMo's restrictions first came in to effect. I was definitely a bit apprehensive about it and in retrospect I'm amazed it went ahead, but was surprised by how many of my teammates didn't care - sharing drink bottles with each other as one example.

But given the (lack of) progression in recent times, and anticipating that there will continue to be minimal cases while our borders stay closed, I wouldn't hesitate to play. The awareness within community football, including no shared facilities/drink bottles and temperature/symptom checks for players, also makes me more comfortable. There is always risk, but there's also a risk that I get badly injured in every match I play, so I wouldn't weight this risk any higher than that.

It's void because I play in Eastern anyway, but it will be interesting whether transfers to country leagues are allowed. I know AFL Outer East (i.e. Yarra Valley) are making their decision on June 23.

The recent covid spike and tightening of restrictions has all but killed local footy for this season. The Western league the latest to pull the pin.

As of a couple of days ago the ammos were 50-50, but given the nature of their competition whereby teams from all over the city play against each other and those belonging to Old Boy clubs are likely to come from more diverse areas within the city it would be madness for them to continue.
