VFL heads into primetime with huge new TV and streaming deal revealed

VFL matches will head into primetime in 2021 with the announcement of the new broadcast deal for the revamped east coast state league, which begins on April 16.

Fox Footy will broadcast at least two matches each round for free, via the Kayo Freebies program on the Kayo streaming service.

Plus on weeks without Thursday night footy at AFL level, Fox Footy will air a VFL match live and go all-out with coverage and analysis of the primetime game.

I wonder if this is a test case for a national reserves competition. Will we see Adelaide and Port in particular come across in the next few years?

Surely at a minimum there is pressure on the SANFL and WAFL to also get a game a week on Foxtel/Kayo to ensure their clubs remain as lucrative in a marketing sense to their VFL counterparts.
