He played most of the third quarter in the defensive half.

I reckon we need to play Marra in the firsts now. Getting balls kicked 10m in front of him while he’s being double teamed is doing nothing for him.

I stopped watching around half time but Schache played defence, looked awesome, then got moved out of defence almost immediately? Makes sense.

He was moved back against the wind and sent forward with the wind. I’d prefer him just to stay back and see him what he’s got.

Definitely. We know he’s not an AFL standard forward but I see no reason he can’t be a Lukosius type defender.

That 30 minutes was the most encouraging footy Schache has played this year. We need to keep him there.

He just doesn't work hard enough, no point gifting him games on potential. He's not fit enough, isn't physically developed and drops his head when things don't go his way.

If he puts the hard work in things will go his way but quite happy for him to learn the hard lesson now.

I agree will never make it as a forward at AFL level we need tp try something. I think whats holding them back is the fact it will leave Marra to anchor the forward line which is undesirable at this stage.

The VFL is about development first, winning second. Keep Marra deep forward and partner him with Vanderheuvel or Glass-McCasker as the second tall. We need to explore the possibility that we might just have a 200cm intercepting defender with elite foot skills on our list.

Re: Round 12, 2021 - Footscray Bulldogs v North Melbourne

                        VFL player summary: Round 12

Bulldogs’ assistant coach Travis Varcoe reviews the 12 AFL-listed players who took part in Sunday’s 11-point win over North Melbourne.

                        Hayden Crozier

                        28 disposals, 10 marks, 10 rebound 50s

“It can be frustrating not being at the level you want to, but you couldn’t tell the difference with ‘Croz’. His leadership qualities are great – you want those players to play at an AFL standard, and he was a great example for our whole list to see the attitude that is needed.”

                        Josh Schache

15 disposals, nine marks, one goal

“’Schack’ spent most of the day fighting with a plus-one – like Jamarra. He fought it out until the end though, which we liked to see. He also spent a quarter down back which, was good to see him use his foot skills and marking abilities to his advantage.”

                        Rhylee West

22 disposals, seven tackles, seven inside 50s, five clearances

“It was a ‘Westy’ type of day – there was a lot of that contested, grunt work. 15 or so of his 22 possessions were contested also, which is nothing to sneeze at. He’s building each week.”

                        Louis Butler

22 disposals, five tackles, seven inside 50s, two goals

“’Buts’ was coming back to the game off a bit of a stint with injury, so he’ll be better for the long run. It was good to see him back - we love having him out there.”

                        Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Six disposals, five tackles, one goal

“’Jamarra – like ‘Schack’ – is often fighting with a plus-one, so credit to North who stood up and made it a pretty difficult day for him. To Jamarra’s credit though, he fought it right out to the end, which will bring good growth.”

                        Buku Khamis

13 disposals, eight marks, three tackles

“For the looks that North got going forward and through the middle, I thought ’Buks’ was pretty important in helping our defence and our depth, and then starting the work from there. Our backline in general held up really well.”

                        Ben Cavarra

17 disposals, five marks, nine tackles, two goals

“’Cav’ was pretty impressive with his defensive work, and on the back of that was able to hit the scoreboard and generate some energy. I loved what he was able to create.”

                        Dom Bedendo

10 disposals, four marks, four inside 50s, two goals

“’Dommy’ is getting higher up the ground, which is nice. He’s in the early phases of learning his role and being consistent with that. He took another step in the right direction.”

                        Lachie McNeil

22 disposals, six marks, three inside 50s, one goal

“Lachie was good - he is learning how his abilities can help himself and us as a team. I love watching his development.”

                        Will Hayes

26 disposals, nine marks, four rebound 50s

“’Hayesy’ provided some run-and-punch off the backline which we love. He’s still learning parts of his craft, but is getting better and better each week.”

                        Roarke Smith

15 disposals, seven tackles, three inside 50s

“’Roarkey’ was another one coming back from the AFL system. Like ‘Croz’, the way that he leads by example is great and we love having him back out there.”

                        Jordon Sweet

                        11 disposals, five tackles, 23 hit-outs

“’Sweety’ had a good tussle with North’s ruck Tom Campbell – playing against those bigger, bona fide bodies is only going to add to his development. It was a solid effort from him.”

Geez, if they read woof more often Schache to defence would’ve looked good a while ago!
