    Media Rumours, Into Hypothetical Trades

For shits and giggles until the end of the trade window, I thought I find the media rumours and try to work out trades if the rumoured were coming to us. I’m not necessarily advocating any of them, just attempting to make it work.

I’ve read that Brad Johnson thinks Luke Bruest should be traded for the rebuild at Hawthorn. Several media outlets agree with Johno. Ceglar’s name gets mentioned to us too from what some posters are hearing. Both are age 31 next year, so I’m rating them down in trade value on age. So imaging they are both coming to us, and Hawthorn are one of the Victorian clubs into Lew Young:

    Hawks: Pick 17 or 18, 72 & Young

    Dogs: Pick 24, 56, Bruest & Ceglar

Hawks: 5, 17 or 18, 21, 62, 72 - Move from mid Second Rounder where compo & bids could push that out to Pick 30. Now they have another First Rounder & KPD for the rebuild, for players not critical to their rebuild.

Dogs: 24, 62, Bruest, Ceglar - Dogs get a ready to go small/mid accurate goal kicker and a ruckman in our window. Draft Point neutral while losing Young.

Roughly, Young & 72 for Ceglar & 56. Picks 17 or 18 for Bruest & Pick 24. Still have the same amount of Draft Points in the bank give or take.

That’s the best I can make this cluster of rumours work.

Bruest is a handy player but would he be taking the place of or even be getting a game in front of Weightman or Hannan? We will hopefully have to find a spot in the forward line for Bruce and MacLean later on next season too.

If premiership ruckman Stef Martin retires I could see us finding a spot for Ceglar. Bevo would be familiar with him from his time at Hawthorn too.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

More I think about it, the more I want Martin to stay on AND get another experienced ruck.

I put up a way for that in Well Ruck Me thread.

I see no value in Bruest for us.

We have Weightman, Van der Meer, Marra, McNeil, Hannan to fit in around Naughton, Schache and resting ruck.
No need to waste salary cap on Bruest.

Would be happy to take Ceglar if a better option does not materialise, but you wouldn't be paying much.

Didn't he start at GC and leave because he hated it there?

Don't know if Hartlett is cooked but if not you'd reckon he'd land somewhere.

Did North offer Hartlett a farm with a kitchen sink attached a few years ago? Am I remembering that correctly?

Why would port trade Charlie Dixon for a late pick?

Could they trade Polec back for Hartlett and pay a big chunk of Polecs salary?

                            Fair enough.

He was a good player in his day, but time waits for no one.

Archie Smith to seek to exercise FA if another club would take him.

202cm, 104kg super-athletic ruck with no forward craft. I'd take him over Chol or Cox if we're cheaping out on a ruck. .
