    Footscray List Changes 2022

Thread to keep us all updated with any list changes you hear about.

    To kick it off:

Former Port Adelaide defender Joel Garner has signed with Footscray for the 2022 VFL season.

Garner, who played four matches for the Power across four years at Alberton Oval, was not offered a new contract for next season, concluding his stay in South Australia.

The 22-year-old has since returned to Victoria, joining the Bulldogs and his junior club Wandin in the top division of the Outer East Football League, sharing his next season between the two clubs.

"It is great pleasure that we get to introduce you to our latest signing Joel Garner," a Wandin Football Club post reads.

"Most of those at the football club have tracked with great interest Joel's journey through the AFL system and whilst we are disappointed that he is no longer at Port Adelaide we are wrapped that he has chosen to be with us through 2022 when not with the Western Bulldogs at VFL level.

"His commitment to both the junior and senior clubs whenever he has been back in Melbourne has always been A1. He has spoken consistently of his desire to wear our senior Jumper and his willingness to do so when ever schedules make him available in 2022 delights us.

"A leader from a young age, he makes us better both on-field and off with an ability to play through all areas of the ground making him a perfect fit when returning from VFL."

Footscray managed an undefeated run to begin the 2021 VFL season prior to the campaign's abrupt conclusion due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stewart Edge's side are primed for another string premiership tilt next season, which is set to begin in late March.

I thought he was a decent junior footballer. Perhaps his best football is still in front of him

    Solid addition for us.

Through the looking Glass: Jesse returns with Reserves
Jesse Glass-McCasker has returned to IKON Park with the Carlton Reserves.

JESSE Glass-McCasker will return to IKON Park.
A former rookie for the AFL side, the versatile key position player has signed on with the Carlton Reserves for season 2022.
Glass-McCasker was on the Carlton list from 2016-2018, after being selected with the opening pick in the rookie draft.
Striking up a strong friendship with fellow 2015 draftee Jacob Weitering, Glass-McCasker has since played for boyhood club Swan Districts (2019) in the WAFL before impressing with Footscray (2021) in the VFL.

Breaking through as a key defender, Glass-McCasker has spent time in the forward line and - particularly for the Bulldogs - had stints in the ruck.
He played every game for the undefeated Bulldogs, averaging 10 disposals and 14 hitouts while also proving to be a valuable scoring outlet (seven goals).
Now back in the Navy Blue at IKON Park, VFL Senior Coach Daniel O’Keefe said a player of Glass-McCasker’s experience and skillset was exactly what the Blues were after.
“We’re thrilled to be able to welcome Jesse to our Carlton Reserves program for season 2022,” O’Keefe said.
“He’s someone who knows the Club after his three years here at IKON Park, and he brings great experience with nearly 50 VFL games under his belt for a couple of clubs.
“The beauty with Jesse is that we’re bringing in someone who can easily play three roles for us. He’s a great size at 196 centimetres and he has played in just about every key position possible on the ground.

“Primarily, we’ve brought Jesse in as a forward. We love what he brings in the front half, particularly in the air.
“A key focus for us was bringing in more height and Jesse brings that in every line. We’re delighted to have him back in Navy Blue and we can’t wait to see what he brings to our team.”

I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity but we will find others.

Tate Short has also left the Club to play for Caulfield Grammarians full time. Another significant loss for Footscray.

I remember a couple of seasons back thinking he was a decent player for us. Good luck to him

                  Thanks 3D for the update.

Obviously apart from the last shot Greg Chappell shows what makes him close to the best batsman I've ever seen. He gets in behind the line of every ball even though Garner has them rearing and spitting off a surface that looks a little substandard for test cricket.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Jamieson Ballantyne from GWV Rebels is training with Footscray

Here is Kevin Sheehan's assessment of him prior to the last draft

                            Height: 183cm
                            Weight: 78kg
                            Date of Birth: 16/04/03

Wingman who really caught the eye with his running patterns and endurance using his natural footy smarts to win the ball, drawing some comparison to Geelong's running machine Isaac Smith. A consistent performer for the GWV Rebels this year playing 10 games and averaging 17.9 disposals (six contested) and four inside 50s, he commutes from Portland three hours from the training /playing base in Ballarat twice a week, giving a sense of his commitment. Also represented Victoria Country in AFL Challenge match against Victoria Metro, impressing with 15 disposals in a promising performance. Ranked in the top five nationally for 2km with his time of 6 minutes 19 seconds at the Draft Combine in Bendigo for Victoria Country.
