    That's twice now.

Strange for so early in the season. Hope he's OK health wise. Would not be surprised if he retired part way though the year; selfishly I'd want it to happen prior to the mid season draft.
    Martin was covid protocols.

What does Varcoe mean when he refers to Garcias spread from the contest? It’s an odd phrase.

        Riley Garcia
25 disposals, six clearances, eight inside-50s, one goal
“Like Westy, this game just suited Sunny. That contested brand, and the inside to outside capabilities that he brings – there isn’t anyone quite on the same page as him with his spread away from the contest going forward. He’s always one that looks for those little areas to grow and improve too, but it was a good, solid game from Sunny that I enjoyed watching.”

The whole report was written weirdly. Glad Travis enjoyed watching at least.

It's a fairly common phrase around footy clubs these days. The way I understand it is that he can be part of a contested ball situation (say a loose ball on the wing with a 2 or 3 players from each team) but then moves away ('spreads') in to empty space that makes him an attacking option for a kick or handball over the top.

There is often talk about 'spread' being important because otherwise you win the ball and only have players under pressure to pass it too. If someone is 'spreading' into open space, they might be able to receive and release the ball with less pressure on them.

Thanks Jazz. I get the spread part, but what on earth does on the same page mean? I guess he’s superior?

That's my read; he's the best spreading from contest at Footscray.

I was surprised as I thought your footy lingo was pretty good - hope my basic explanation didn't offend.

My read was that nobody else is understanding the requirements/expectations for spreading from the contest like Garcia, and he is meeting that standard better than anyone else. I think 'nobody else on the same level as him' would have made more sense.

"on the same page" does that mean they know how to read the play and where the ball is going ? As that was going to be my next question before grantyGhost beat me to it.

does being pyshic help in reading where a player handballs a ball out of a contest ?

the 2-3 centre breaks that Melbourne got in the GF 3rd quarter, I just wonder if they knew how to read the spread better than our players, or was it just pure luck the ball got out in the space where melbourne players were ? Its just that 5 min burst that killed us.

All good mate. No offence. My question wasn’t very well worded.

Noticed McNeil wearing the domestique top at training.

Can you wear that and not get a gig the next week??
