Risky ploy for a player to try and trick multiple clubs Josie. I don't think it's that.
Both Port and Adelaide are picking from a long way back so it's not going to allow him to stay at home.
A club is picking him in the first round and how he interviews could determine if it's earlier or later. Swans a chance if he goes late.
I think Rendell would have mentioned if his intel was that he was a flight risk.
My guess is that he could be coming across as a touch arrogant or he doesn't exhibit a team first attitude. Both traits can be fixed and a club will back themselves to take on the challenge.

If we were to draft Phillipou could we also look to bring in someone Billy Dowling who is a mate of his to help him settle in?

That would make sense and Dowling is a handy type as well. It honestly makes you wonder, how bad did he interview that it makes clubs question his selection? Keep in mind, most of the time he's trying to answer the questions to the best of his ability with what clubs want to hear. So strange that it is so disturbing that clubs are prepared to overlook his performance and testing data to second guess his selection.

You would have to assume there is a theme to his responses that doesn't appeal to some clubs.
Hard to speculate on exactly what that is but in what appears to be a fairly even draft at the first 6 or 7 picks it could dictate how far he might slide.
Clubs can't just look at the vision and make their decisions on that and the interviews play a part of accessing how a player might fit in.

It appears he is currently a puzzle for clubs and if he reads Rendells comments it might snap him out of whatever he's been saying.
You would imagine clubs will do at least one more interview with him and keep up the due diligence.

His father is a friend of a friend and works in the same industry as me; we’ve met a few times at various events and functions. He’s a nice guy but very self confident, and has some strong opinions. Not a criticism but he wouldn’t suffer fools gladly and probably zero chance of ever winning an arguement or having his opinion changed. I’ve never discussed his son with him

Did Sam think he was hard done by with his time at the club? I wonder if that has clouded young Mattaes opinion of the dogs. Similar to old man Dunkley and the swans.
More of an In Bruges guy?

I don't think so and I doubt Mattaes has treated us any differently to other clubs during the interviews.
I also doubt Rendells comments are because of feedback from us.

Sam arrived at the club as a maths and science wiz and I don't think he really adjusted.
As a player he acknowledged that it took him a long while to get super fit but he could quickly lose quickly. He was also a bit slower and not really athletic enough. Had a good enough career at the SANFL though.

It doesn't surprise me that he is still very confident and stubborn.

Potentially we have an overly confident kid who might have inherited a stubborn streak. Well welcome to my world
It shouldnt be a showstopper to us drafting him but it might open the door for some other players we were considering.
Allan or Busslinger should be considered and someone else might slide down the order.

The kid already qualifies as a AFL KPF

Hey TT, would you draft him if he was still around at our pick?

It's a fine line isn't it? Some of the greatest athletes had a level of arrogance and over confidence about them.

I doubt being over confident is enough to put clubs off completely, especially if the talent is there. Very strange one.

We are off track with this assessment. No one is worried he might be over confident.
