Re: Round 11 - Footscray v Geelong Saturday June 3rd 2023 at Avalon

Player positions this afternoon for the first half:

Gallagher and Roarke on the wings, VDM and Poulter playing half back and having good games possession wise.

As usual West (2 goals) and Clarke are deep fwds and Buku and Raak are the tall fwds along with Hannan and Darcy (who has 2 behinds and rucked for 10 mins of 2nd qtr).

Crozier, Bruce and Keath virtually impassable while Cleary and Buss both playing as link players.

Sweet dominant in ruck (28 hit outs to HT) and just toying with opposition.

Of the VFL players, Sullivan back to his best, Garner an important return to the side (calf) and Chatfield being moved fwd last couple of weeks having a good game (played fwd in 2022 then started 2023 off half back).

Surface is fairly slippery so challenging for both teams.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

People underestimate a good tap ruckman and what they bring to the team. Look at Witts last week who gave his midfielders an armchair ride. Which is why i think Sweet should play in the 1's and do all the ruck work and English used as a utility around the ground. If we dont play him he will get picked up next year by another club who will get the benefits of all the work we have put in.

            I'm giving Sam some leeway
Looks a bit rusty but has shown good kicking skills in the past.

I’ve seen 2 different articles in the past week that have announced their mid season All Australian teams. In both English was named as the ruckman. If we replace him with Sweet, will Sweet play above All Australian level? By trying to solve one problem (maybe half a problem) how many problems do we create?

What do woofers think of Charlie Clarke?

I'm not sure what we saw in him tbh.

Just doesn't look up the level.

                    Hope I'm wrong.

I recall reading this about Cody too. He needs some time.

Yes true, I thought of him when I posted it.

Just something bothering me about Clarke.

Doesn't seem to have any elite traits.

Early days, god speed to the kid.

the all-Australian team does not have an A-Grade opposition ruckman.

English is not a ruckman against better ruckman, Pinott as an example.

It's a hard to argue he's not a good ruckman when currently he's the best ruckman in the world.

So we play him as a wingman? Mid?
