Buku has been very ordinary today although he popped up late in that quarter.
I don't think any of the AFL guys have made much of an impression except may be Hannan with a few flashes.

It's amazing how McSteal, Raak and McComb found themselves on an AFL list. We just have too many vanilla players on our list without an AFL attribute.

34 frees to 15, what a joke VFL umpiring is.

Sweet calmly slotting one over a pile of brawling bodies he instigated easily the highlight.

                Re: Round 12 - Footscray v Frankston Saturday 10th June 2023

Went to Frankston this arvo and have to say the ground is great for spectators although the actual ground is rather tight across the wings with narrow pockets for the players....anywho, about the game.

Someone has already mentioned no AFL players really put their hands up but it would be hard to look past Hannan's 5 goals and the fact he can dominate this level if he chooses to do so. Just don't see him replacing any of our taller fwds just yet.

Thought O'Brien and Croz were also not far off Hannan in respect to being 'above' VFL level and their might be a spot for either of them if Bruce or JOD were dropped.

Someone mentioned in a seperate stream Buku being given a run in the firsts, but not on his recent VFL form. I don't think he's altogether at fault for his 'form' given he (along with Raak) is being asked to fill the 'big bodied' fwd role which he's not suited too. NB - we need to recruit some bigger bodied players onto our VFL list for 2024). For now, I suspect Buku may end up playing out the balance of 2023 in the magoos unless injuries open up a spot for him.

As for the rest....I seen different positives to take from this game
                1. Roarke getting another run and being an important experienced head/big body when it mattered. 18 disposals along with 6 marks is not bad for a his second run this season
                2. The continued 'work experience' down back for Buss, who improves each week by slight increments (but increments nonetheless).
                3. Clarke having his best game (2 goals) - stats won't show it (7 disposals), but he is clean and has 'smarts' (I've noticed these 'smarts' coming to the fore in a few VFL games now so I reckon we might have a player).
                4. Gallagher getting another full game in on the wing. He is a little bit on the smallish side (vs Roarke), but wasn't afraid to mix it with the bigger bodies of Frankston with 4 tackles for the game
                5. Cleary continuing to be an option for the first team when the call comes - he is not quick, but when he gets the ball, he will go for a bit of a run and look for the best option and generally delivers the ball well (18 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles)
                6. Poulter playing another game across half back. Before his recruitment, he was playing wing for Footscray. It seems his MSD selection is to cover JJ's long term injury(?). He had 17 disposals and importantly 5 tackles.
                7. Gardner improving from his first qtr 'mare' and taking the game on a few times in the second half (would have upped his confidence methinks...) 15 disposals and 5 marks (but still too many 'spoils' in lieu of marks...)

                And finally...
                8. Sweet adding little things to his game on top of dominating hit outs at this level. in the past few weeks he has improved his tackling numbers and today he put himself forward of the ball a couple of times (and benefitted with a goal). I note that Stefan Martin had a major role to play with the VFL team today - can only hope we might be seeing Sweet being more than just a CB ruckman over the balance of the VFL season.

Thanks for the report Smads, outstanding as usual.

How long until Roarke is in the selection frame again do you think? He is the type of depth we had when we've most recently played our best football, if not an integral part of our structure when we have. If he's good to go then a swap for Jones and him playing a high role doesn't seem too bad to me. I get he's not quick, but he's disciplined and it's behind the ball where we desperately need speed.
                  TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Think Roarke needs a couple more games under his belt given his almost non existent pre-season (which extended into the season proper). The 'push' for him being selected maybe out of his hands directly as I suspect it sits with how well Baker can come back from his relegation to sub from Friday night. I would have him playing the wing role (vs being swapped for Jones as a HF) as he has shown in the past he can push back behind the ball as needed.

                    My thoughts....

Love it Smads. I've missed the old VFL reports since the games have been streamed. Just don't have the attention to watch the VFL nowdays but am happy to read the insights of those that do

Thanks Smads, Although its good from my perspective being interstate that the games are streamed (although I think by the local TAFE TV course) you can't beat at the ground experience.
On Sweet I had noticed his tackling in the centre has been good over the last few weeks and it does stop the ball exiting easily if he can keep improving I could see him take the main ruck role and Tim move to second string if Tim doesn't crack the shits.
Sweet will goes else where if he doesn't get a look in and for a ruck man he's entering his prime.
I also like the aggression Sweet has as opposed to Tim who is more a outside player I think.

This year Tim has averaged 5 tackles a game so he doesn't mind that side of the game.

Sweet should be modelling his game like Witts, who is a good tap ruckman plays hard at stoppages to keep the ball for his team

The greatbeard himself Hudson would be another example of ruck style to emulate
