Re: Rank your top 6 draftees

I'm not a big draft watcher but I managed to catch a bit of junior footy this year :
      1. Reid
      2. McKercher
      3. Curtin
      4. Duursma
      5. Walter
      6. Sanders

It's probably because I haven't seen enough of him but I watched the Champs and really, really wanted to like Walter because huge full-forwards who take clunks and chase down half-backs make footy fun, but I didn't love him as a prospect. He felt to me like he could be a Boyd/Patton/Hogan very well-built key forward who doesn't consistently translate to AFL level. Some of his kicking looks awkward, I'm not that sold on his ball handling at ground level and when the prototype key forward is starting to get up to 200cm, is he tall enough?

Looks like a ripper athlete and he's done it all at under-18 level, but I just had a few ahead on what I saw (and you could probably point some of those same criticisms at Reid too).

So yeah, there is a chance.

I think he plays back and has Moore like potential (glass half full). Worst case scenario is he is a 197cm dependable key back I think...
I?d expect him to be at WCE next year but he would be perfect for North, Hawks and the Dogs.

            A ruckman at #1?

Holy Hell. Josh Fraser, c'mon down!

When the best rucks of the past 20 years are Dean Cox and (probably) Max Gawn who were both rookie selections, I just can't see anyone biting on this.

The best ruck out of this years draft...no-one knows his name yet. The best forward...that's Walter!
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Tongue in cheek? I know I don't watch a heap of junior footy, but I never saw Harley Reid ruck a centre bounce

I think mjp is mixing up Harley Reid and Ethan Read?

Yeah, I thought we were done with the Harley Reid at #1, it's all about Walter...

Surely we're not back to that one??

                          ESPN
                          7. Ryley Sanders (7)
                          Sandringham Dragons/Allies
                          MID, 186cm, 85kg
Talent League: 9 games, 30.6 disposals, 7.0 clearances
A brilliant accumulator with an appetite for the contest, Sanders has steadily risen up boards through the year and will be heavily considered in the top five come draft night. His resum? is bursting at the seams with a talent league premiership to go with his Larke Medal as the best player in the state championships. Questions remain on his ball use and he lacks elite burst from stoppage, but Sanders is the best contested midfielder in the pool.
I worry about this part. For what we gave up I'd want something a little more exciting than Jack Macrae, or Brad Crouch

                          Twoomey
Sanders has been the most consistent player in the draft crop, continuing to show up every week and dominate. His ball-winning, strength, work in tight, capacity to hit the scoreboard and not just accumulate but hurt with his touches is a big factor in his place inside the top 10. He's also simply just ready for the next level. The Larke medallist from the Allies' carnival has dominated the end of Sandringham's season, including a 38-disposal and 11-clearance game against the Western Jets to lift his average to 32 touches in the Coates Talent League this year.
I can only assume that given we traded up to where we did we were comfortable taking any of the 6 kids we rate highest. Sanders at this stage feels a bit vanilla so I hope he can beat those allegations of we get him (and not if we don't)

Ryley?s a natural footballer with vision, his ball use isn?t an issue. And for elite burst from stoppage, checkout video below at about 2:05. Plus those socks! It?s all about the socks!!

This. I'm sure he'll be a 200 gamer but will he be a game changer? We gave up a lot for this pick.

How's he compare to Sam Walsh?

He could be our next Scott West.
