    Re: 2023 Trade Period Hypothetical

Is the change of position being overstated? His CBA diminished but still the 4th most in the team and often rolled up even when he wasn?t starting as a CB mid.

I just think he had an ordinary season and his work rate dropped away a little bit. It?s not as if he was playing as a deep forward. Macrae needs to be somewhere near his best to play huge CB minutes with our midfield mix and attributes.

It?s similar to Bailey Smith who to me was playing a very similar role to his break out 2021 finals series but all of a sudden the media narrative is that he was being played out of position. Whether he should attend more CB is a different question to whether his role changed significantly.

Imagine the vibe here if Macrae asks for a trade.... At least jeemak will be happy.
Is this a joke? I love Jacko and think you're all mad in thinking he's dispensable.

However the calls for him to trim up and do everything he can to be in his best shape are reasonable.

Just play him in his best position (which isn't running up and turning back towards goal), put it on him to turn it around.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

We do Jack to the Saints for a 5 pick upgrade in the 30s then I’m gonna be forced to find out some home addresses again.

        That hypothetical is insanity.

So lets explore a trade Hypothetical.

Sam Power gets a call from Macrae's manager early on Wednesday morning. "Sam I've been talking to Jack and we are a bit concerned that he's going to be played out of position for the balance of his career" "Silvagni asked me about Jack and he's pretty keen to get him and from what I can gather they'll consider offering pick 35 and Coffield for Macrae and pick 40 but you'll have to chip in 100K a season for the balance of Jacks contract"

Assuming Power takes this to the list management committee what do you think the answer would be?
Would you/they counter, reject or accept?

On paper it's not a great deal but in reality it could solve some other challenges we will face in the short term.

          Interested to hear your thoughts?
Im stuck between a total rejection and countering the offer

My counter would be that we will keep pick 40 and they can have pick 55 but there is no agreement for us to contribute any money for the balance of Macraes contract.
So SOS give us pick 35 and Coffield and you can have Macrae and pick 55 with no financial assistance and you have 10 minutes to confirm that offer or its done and dusted.
          Im okay with keeping Macrae.

I think Jacko still has some good football in him, however I can equally see a world where he doesn’t warrant a spot in our midfield rotation and continues to have a moderate impact on other roles.

We have an aging midfield and an injury to Libba or Treloar and them missing a significant period of time would open up a spot for Jacko. He’s durable and effective in and under. His field kicking is neat. He works hard defensively however mainly has the capability to do this well at close proximity.

I’m not sure what he’s costing us however would be reluctant to trade him out after one down year given his career to date. Matt Crouch maybe a good comparison?
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Yes. You love calling for our best players to get traded

I would prefer that we don't write off Macrae after the one down season in his 10 year career. I'd back him to turn it around with more education about his role.
