          Re: Footscray FC VFL 2024

Have I missed something? Why is Sullivan listed as being from Port Melbourne?

AFL 2024: Collingwood leads way on summer signing period as clubs look to fill final list spots

Here is a list of who is training where.

          COLLINGWOOD

          Collingwood's train-on players
List spots: 3 (can open another by placing Dan McStay on inactive list)
Train-on players: Brynn Teakle (Port Adelaide), Lachie Sullivan (Port Melbourne, VFL), Sam Sofronidis (Collegians, VAFA), Jack Bytel (St Kilda), Campbell Hustwaite (Collingwood, VFL), Ned Long (Hawthorn), Josh Eyre (Collingwood, VFL).

All eyes are on the Pies, who have maxed out with six official train-on players. A spot on the Collingwood list is lucrative, given Oleg Markov was signed during summer last year and went on to play in a premiership under Craig McRae.

Collingwood has thrown a blanket over the field with its players, covering rucks (Brynn Teakle), tall defence (Sam Sofronidis) and the midfield.

A further wrinkle is that the Pies could open up a fourth spot on the list by making Dan McStay inactive after his season-ending knee injury.

VAFA star Sofronidis has shown strong running ability for a tall, while Port Melbourne VFL ace Lachie Sullivan has run through the midfield at times during the summer.

Plenty to play out for Collingwood.

Thanks. Still makes no sense as McComb would also be listed as being from us, neither have played for Port Melbourne recently (I know McComb along with Roarke and Billy Gowers have joined Port). I assume it's just a mistake.

Concerning we had only re-signed 1 VFL player to that point. Bianco seems to be missing from the arriving list.

Can you play VFL if you?re under 18 ?
Just wondering if Lalor can play . Not sure of his birthdate though.

Some draft prospects play a few games. Harley Reid played VFL for Essendon and Carlton last season.

I'm not sure if they have to be 18, Reid turned 18 in April, Lalor doesn't turn 18 until the end of August.

I see Port have picked up 7 ex AFL players .
And Gowers is one of them.

Sounds like a good pickup, we didn't want Smith to have to shoulder the load on his own.

                        From the Swans website:
The Sydney Swans recruited Tasmanian Cameron Owen with pick 17 of the 2022 NAB AFL Rookie Draft. A 203cm developing ruck/forward who has the ability to take a contested mark and kick goals, Owen is a long-term prospect who adds some depth to Sydney?s big man stocks.

                        RUCK FORWARD
                        #30
                        Cameron Owen
                        Height: 203cm

                        Weight: 94kg

                        D.O.B: 28-05-2004

Leagues: AFL U18 Championships, Coates Talent League Boys

                        STRENGTHS:

                        + Aerial ability
                        + Mobility
                        + Size
                        + Upside

                        IMPROVEMENTS:

                        - Ground level work
                        - Scoreboard impact

Tasmanian ruck-forward Cameron Owen is far from the finished product, but is one who earned a State Draft Combine invite following a consistent top-age year. Owen is not an explosive tall like others, but he is mobile enough that he can get around the ground and move a little better than some opposing rucks. He finds his fair share of the ball, and while his consistency is still building, has shown he can present as a leading forward as well as a ruck.

At 203cm, the Tasmanian is a good height, and at 94kg, is more built than many of his peers, and when presenting out in front inside 50 or around the ground, he is consistent enough with his hands to clunk them. Again, he is not a superb contested mark, but he can cleanly take grabs when creating separation on his opponent, and he will always make a contest. His upside is evident with what he does well.

Owen still has a number of areas to work on, as his consistency is still not there yet. From an on-field traits perspective, his ground level work is another area, while Owen missed chances to really influence up forward, though he presents well. A long-term prospect.

I assume it has to do with the Swans getting Grundy in the trade period last year. I can't see Peter Ladhams getting that much of a go this year in the AFL maybe as a forward ruck? I feel like he will mainly play main ruck in the VFL so there is really no need for Cameron Owen then.
