Footscray Bulldogs vs National Academy Squad- Whitten Oval 27/4

The 2024 Marsh AFL National Academy Boys squad will represent Australia for the second time this month when they take on VFL ladder-leader Footscray at Mission Whitten Oval this Saturday, April 27

The 2024 Marsh AFL National Academy Boys squad will represent Australia for the second time this month when they take on VFL ladder-leader Footscray at Mission Whitten Oval this Saturday, April 27.
The 2024 Marsh AFL National Academy Boys squad comprises many of the nation?s most promising footballers born in 2006 who will be eligible to be selected in the 2024 AFL Draft.
Members of the Academy take part in an accelerated football and personal development program throughout the 2024 season that provides participants with experiences, learnings and further opportunities to best prepare them for the next steps in their football journey.
The Marsh AFL National Academy Boys squad will arrive in Melbourne on Thursday for their third high-performance camp of the 2024 program.

Saturday?s match against Footscray will see the Academy represent the Australia U18 team for the second time this year after taking on VFL outfit Coburg at IKON Park a fortnight ago.

Several players who missed the match against Coburg will return from injury to take on the Bulldogs. They include West Australian duo Bo Allan and Malakai Champion and Victorians Archer Day-Wicks, Sam Lalor and Finn O?Sullivan.

Sid Draper, Jonty Faull and Noah Mraz will miss Saturday?s game due to injury but will still take part in the camp in Melbourne, with Murray Bushrangers defender Matt Whitlock being called in to the squad for the camp and match.

AFL National Indigenous and Multicultural Academy members Basil Hart and Ben Rongdit will also participate in this week?s camp, taking part in the development opportunities over the weekend, but won?t feature in the match as bottom-age players not yet in their draft year.

Taj Hotton, Jordan Nguyen, Tobie Travaglia and Jack Whitlock won?t feature in this camp after coming in as injury replacements for the previous match against Coburg.

Daniel isn’t here but Keath and Poulter are, so assume he’s the travelling emergency.

Buss is getting a ton of it. Not really doing much but he’s involved. He also could swap into an U18 jumper and you wouldn’t notice size-wise.

Also I know absolutely none of the players on the other team except Levi Ashcroft which is giving me a bit of information overload trying to figure out who’s good.

Whoever 27 is for the Academy, we should pick him.

QT Dogs 4.2 Academy 1.3 - looks like a good crop coming thru. Poulter getting plenty of it for Dogs and starting in the centre on occasions.

I’d play Clarke soon. He has that thing about him where he looks like a gun at footy even if he doesn’t do a ton. Bailey Williams has it too.

HT Dogs 8.3 Academy 4.4 - game closer than scores show with respect to competitiveness. Good hit out for the 2’s. That qtr Baker went to the centre bounces and Poulter back to wing. Likely Keath leading the possession stats(?) Sanders had a good qtr.

How would woofers handle Croft atm? I just think we are utilising too many high priced assets forward of the footy. I'm guessing the challenge with him playing behind the ball is that we already have Buss, Gardy and Keath playing in D50.

I'm really keen to play him in defence ASAP what ever needs to happen.

I’ve left the ground now but was really impressed with Smith, Buss, Clarke and Sanders. Smith in particular knew he had a physical advantage and really tried to pour it on.

I looked up a mock draft on the walk back home and all the guys I thought were good for the Academy are going in the top 10.

3/4 time Dogs 12.4 Academy 7.5 Croft swapped back and Gardy fwd halfway thru qtr. Poulter back into the centre/Baker to wing. Clarke with 3 goals. Good tussle between Sanders and Ashcroft. Sanders having a lot to say to rucks at CBAs
