I don't think we should underestimate how much the VFL team being in contention is a huge boost for the club.

Not only does the VFL team going deep mean there is game time for fringe players should the AFL team also go deep, but surely the morale must be much higher overall?

I can imagine it would be more of a blow to the likes of Sanders, Macrae, Baker, Daniel et al if Footscray were rock bottom and getting smacked each week.

From the outside looking in it all seemed to help in the 2016 run.

Anyways, lets do the double.

Truth be told TAC the VFL team lead the way early on in the season and would have given the club confidence the senior team was also heading in the right direction even if the W & L column was not.

Our VFL team has only missed once I think since inception in 2014. We have won two flags and were 11-0 in a covid year that was called off.
We scraped into finals last year and went on a run in finals that saw us get to the prelim.
We have always been good in VFL and I think our development has been one of the best in the league over many years.
We have never bottomed out. We are a bit like the Storm of the VFL.
The ground upgrade is going to improve us even more.
If we can get the results in AFL as we do in VFL we would be regarded as another Geelong which never seems to bottom out.

AFL-listed trio James Harmes, Ryan Gardner and Kelsey Rypstra will return from injury in Sunday?s VFL clash between Footscray and Frankston.

Joel Freijah comes out of the side after being named an AFL emergency, while Connor Smith and Chan Hargraves have been omitted.

Josh Sparkman has also retained his spot as the 23rd player.

Footscray will look to record back-to-back wins when it meets Frankston at Kinetic Stadium from 12pm on Sunday.

The match will be broadcast free to air on Channel 7, with score updates also available via @FootscrayVFL on Twitter.

We've actually selected a side that almost makes sense. I can't recall the last time we have at least put it in a reasonable format.
