    Any difference from last season?
Last season he seemed to ignore the younger guys and just focused on the more established guys. This year he seems to have a better plan for the younger guys like Boumann and is communicating better/

Sounds promising, do you know if he ever chats to the Bulldogs staff about player development or is it all an internal Willy thing at reserve level?

Obviously he works very closely with Gotch so I think he is following the plans Gotch sets.

A few years back when he was at Port he had a bad reputation for playing favorites but I think he is now doing a better job than what he did last year with coaching and instructing the players. The way he has used Boumann has been quite good.

Would that be his doing or a directive from Gotch/ the Bulldogs?

Not sure but at least he is playing him in a variety of positions and using him in a positive manner. More importantly I think he is a constructive influence at the breaks. He might give him a bollocking for an error but he will also pat him on the back and acknowledge to good things he has done. Boumann seems to respond well to him. He also is a contrast to Gotch's quieter style.

Can someone explain Lynch, 2 years ago AFL goal sneak, fastest guy on list (then some poor atitude) but now on a 10 man bench in the magoos?

Coming back from injury this week so he will play in the 2nds. Don't worry too much about the team lists at the moment.

I haven't seen a lot of him but at times he has showed a bit of dash and class. The one thing that will work against him is that he isn't a noted goal kicker especially from set shots. This is shaping as a big year for him so I hope he knows to grasp his chances.

I will be paying close attention to him then.

Also, Scotch College has a bye this weekend and there is a Jones named in the reserves - maybe young Liam is making an appearance?

The 2nds won by a heap and the 1sts got home by a goal.

                          I'll write something up soon.

                            Re: Williamstown vs Frankston

I won't go into a long detail today as I'm fighting a splitting headache.

I enjoyed the 2nds game from a standards perspective.

Mulligan played as the fullback and performed well. Still a lot to learn and it will be interesting if the club can continue to stick with him.
Boumann had another terrific game as the CHB and marked the ball and positioned himself well in just about every contest. I'm a (Paul Keating) true believer now because week after week he has shown vast improvement on last year..
Lynch had a solid day and decided to make a liar out of me with my statements about him not being a noted goal kicker. He should be better for the run.
Shaw had a good game in the ruck alternating with Roughead. It's was one of his better performances but he still needs to improve his around the ground marking.
Ogle was quiet and his skill level suspect but he did his job OK. A lot to learn.
Roughead had another terrific game and rucked well by palming the ball brilliantly and held his marks when rested up forward.
He should return to the firsts next week up in Bendigo.
Jones played mainly as a forward although he also spent a little time in the back line in the last quarter. Great mark but not reliable with his set shots. For anyone looking for a big marking forward then you should enjoy watching him because he has all the right attributes. He isn't quick or that fit but given his reduced training schedule it isn't surprising.

Williamstown had a huge win and I'll make mention again how impressive Dane Rampe is.
He bounced back well today after a couple of quiet games.

The firsts had a narrow win and to be truthful they were very lucky to escape with the 4 points. They certainly rode on the back of Patrick Rose and Matthew Little today.

I might leave the seniors to BT

Thanks GVG - really appreciate you battling through.

                                Just a few quick ones:

Did Lynch play forward all day, or did he play midfield and work forward? Also, how was his tackling and defensive pressure?

Did Boumann go forward at all? Surely, he'll get a promotion next week - who will get the chop in your eyes?

Good to hear Jones had a decent run. With a couple of good pre-seasons, he could be very handy.
