There are still some doubts on his ability to kick the ball efficiently. He is still pretty raw in footy terms so hopefully this part of his game continues to develop.

        For the reserves

Roughead - Played both in the ruck and up forward and was often pitted against the experienced Fanning which was a tough match up for him. He had to sacrifice his game to a certain extent because he was instructed to try and drag Fanning away from the play. Not as good as previous weeks but OK.

Mulligan - Was pretty much the FB for the entire game and got better just about each quarter. He took some nice marks in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and even kicked a long goal in the 3rd. I have been critical of his marking but it was one of the features of his game today.

Lynch - Started off slowly but lifted the tempo from the 2nd quarter onwards. from memory he kicked goals in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters and even missed a couple.
He also applied some of his trademark defensive pressure when he was in the forward line. He turned the ball over a couple of times in the 3rd quarter but it was an otherwise good effort from him.

Daniels - It was the first time I have seen him since his injury and he just lacked a bit of touch. There was some nice dashes and his disposal was a bit up and down but he seemed to finish strongly and he should be right for a good effort next week.

Shaw - Played mainly in the ruck and had a solid game. His hit outs typically found their mark and he did OK.

Ogle - Fairly quiet day for him and he certainly got the runaround early by his opponent. His father was there today.

He didn't play. I heard that he got an injury on Friday.

                      for the Seniors

Skipper - Rucked for nearly all the game and was never rested in the forward line. Good performer who had three good talls to battle in McLaren and the Deluca brothers.

Grant - He covers a lot of ground but always looks like he is spent. Often he seemed to be ignored by his team mates but as the game wore on he started to get more of the ball. There was a couple of big marking attempts and his one goal was from a long distance plus he applied a fair bit of pressure when chasing his opponents.

Reid - He has been one of the more consistent players this year and yesterdays performance was another good one. He got enough of the football and was strong in the contests. He kicked one goal and was efficient with his use of the ball. Reid along with Skipper were probably the only Bulldog players that had 4 solid quarters.

Wood - Played mainly as a defender but might have also been used on a wing for a while. He did some nice things but turned the ball over too much in the good conditions to be regarded as one of the better players.

O'Keefe - I thought he worked his way into the game after a slowish start. However, he wasted the ball too and must have missed 4 or 5 shots on goal (not all of them were points) before he slotted one through in the last quarter. He got caught a few times and with the exception of his handballs seemed to struggle with his skills. The quickness of his handballing was very noticeable.

Boumann - Really liked his game. He started on the IC bench but about midway through the first quarter was sent to the back line and he started getting a lot of the ball. He nearly always had himself in front of his opponent in the marking contests which meant he was never out marked. He also ran of his opponent at the right times creating play and except for one time when he kicked it out of bounds he used the ball effectively.
I hope they stick with him in the seniors.

Tiller - I thought Tillers second half was far better than his first and in fact his first quarter was pretty poor. He made a couple of decision errors before knuckling down to the task at hand. His second half of football was good and he beat his opponent but IMO he wasn't that clean with his skills so I couldn't rate him as strongly as Mofra (and sporting pulse) did.

Wight - Had a good game as a the CHB but I believe he might be carrying a shoulder injury of sorts. He beat his opponents and was a solid contributor.

White - Started off on the IC bench in the first quarter before injuring a knee I think and spending the majority of the 2nd and 3rd quarters on the bench and in the room getting his knee worked on. He had a great 10 minute burst in the 4th quarter but the pace of the game had lowered a fair bit at the stage and the fresh White might have taken advantage of that.

Cordy - Like a lot of his team mates Cordy seemed to start off very quietly before finishing the game strongly. It's not so much that he gets a lot of the ball but the quality of some of then things he does really catches the eye. He kicked a goal and missed a couple of others but once he adds a bit of weight and strength the distance of his kicking will improve

                      Stack never played.

For the Willy guys, Little had a vice like grip up forward with his marking but failed to convert enough of his chances. Rose got a lot of the ball. Egan did some amazing things much to the chagrin of the Port supporters who seemed to have him in their sites. Langlands was a busy player.

Any reason why Stack didn't play?

I went to the game yesterday too. Reid, Tiller and Skipper can step into the senior side if required. I just love the size of Reid and is tough as nails. I went into the huddle at quarter and three quarter time and was rapt to hear Reid so vocal and and showed allot of great leadership qualities. Skipper was also vocal in the huddles.

Grant has to put in a bit more. His body language is one of a 30 year old thats been dominating in the AFL for 12 years and now has been demoting to the reserves and thinks he's just to good. There is no enthusiasm in him. Cordy hasn't been dominating put he looks excited and looks like he wants to be out there. Grant just needs to be alot more vocal on the ground. I know he was ignored a few times but I didn't hear a beep out of him for the whole game. He has to do more then just put his arms in the air or just point.

Boumann looks pretty impressive. Good speed, decision making and skills. He was fairly vocal on the ground which was great. I just hope they throw him up forward and see what he can do. He just might struggle to get a game in the seniors as a defender but will get a chance if he shows something up forward.

I think that he is a very important defender for the bulldogs future - when Lake retires - because Everitt at this stage looks more suited to a Hargrave role than a KP role. We already have Grant, Cordy and Jones to play up forward and you'd think that Boumann also would be too much. Keep him down back and he can form a formidable partnership with Williams in coming years.

What style of game did he play? The tight spoiling defender role or did he run off and create?
