    Williamstown vs Werribee (Reserves)

    VFL Round 10
    Williamstown Reserves Vs Werribee
    Chirnside Park,Werribee
    Saturday 13th June

    Reserves - 10:20am

    B Grossman Tanner Ogle
    HB Miller Mulligan White
    C Georgiadis Lynch Rampe
    HF Young Boumann Cravino
    F Daniels Galea Shaw
    R Meyer Cartelli Joyce
Int Florance Kelly Dimartino Svarc Sharp Muir Lee Isbister Sablich

Interesting to see Mulligan named, as I’d read that he was out with a quad – he has to be doubtful.

No Roughead named means he might get a promotion – good signs.

Boumann is named at CHF but his performances have been solid since getting the call up – hopefully Gotch doesn’t make him the scape goat for a few average team performances in a row.

Tossing up whether I should make the drive to Werribee on a cold winter morning?

Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

For sure, but going on the reports from yourself & GVGjr he seems to have had a good last month so deserves the opportunity to play in the 1's.

Hopefully he is just going back for continuity of footy rather than form. It would be disappointing to learn that he has been dropped, but hopefully he puts his best case forward with another good performance.

The options are being tucked up in a nice warm bed with the lovely or go out to Werribee to freeze your arse off to watch, in all honesty a pretty ordinary standard of footy?

      Get to the footy softy.

I presume that the date is a typo.

Good to see Roughy elevated. Has been solid over the last month Boumanns omission is a puzzling one. Would have looked at others first according to all the match reports lately. Grant seems to be struggling at the minute and Cordy needs to find some form.

difficult to know who has been elevated and who has been demoted when the 1sts have a bye and the 2nds are playing. What I mean by this is, just because a player is playing 2nds does not necessarily mean he has been demoted.

I made the journey to Werribee so I could give you lot a report, despite risking the bitter cold and wind - ok, enough whingeing.

It was a rout after qtr time - 19 goals to 2 and it should've been more.

The following Bulldogs played: Shaw, Lynch, Boumann, Mulligan, Daniels, White and Ogle.

Shaw: Rotated between the ruck and CHF. He clunked a few nice marks early, but let himself down with his kicking - he definitely needs to take his chances if he wants to go to the next level. His tap work was very good and allowed the Willy midfielders first use and dominated the centre clearances.

Lynch: He was named in the bests but I think there were some ahead of him - that being said, he was very good. 2 of his goals were from frees, the other was from a well read mark. His disposal through traffic was impressive, but the best thing about his game was his defensive pressure and tackling. He was relentless and won at least 3 holding the ball free kicks. He needs to bring that work rate with him every week. He is the biggest tease on our list - you see him play like he did today and you wonder why it only happens every other week.

Boumann: Got the chop this week - I refuse to believe it was due to form as his senior performances have been encouraging. More likely it was due to managing the young guys, and getting Roughead a run in the seniors. Started deep in defence and was all over his opponent, his closing speed was particularly impressive. He was responsible for the kick outs and did a good job.

He was then moved forward during the 3rd qtr, before moving back before 3 qtr time. With the Seagulls kicking with the wind, Boumann was moved to the goal square in the last and was given plenty of room to move. He was very dangerous, timing his leads nicely. He even took a ripping one handed contested mark in the goal square - he ended with 2.2, that should've been 4 goals with his 2 behinds hitting the post.

Very encouraging that he is able to move back and forwards during a game, and have a real influence on the contest. Probably ended up with 20 odd possesions, and a recall surely is on the cards soon.

Daniels: His fitness seems to finally be at the level required, as this was easily his best game of the year. His ability to win the ball in congestion and give it to his teammate was crucial in opening the game up. He was very good in the air, and should've kicked a goal but sprayed it. If his form keeps trending up, I'd love to see him get an extended run in the seniors as his hardness is a real attribute.

Mulligan: Suprised to see him out there, and he started well with some nice rebounding runs in the first qtr. Unfortunately he didn't come out after qtr time, and I'd imagine it is a soft tissue injury.

White: Looked very assured, and was clean in slippery conditions. After missing last week, he slotted in beautifully and was constantly moving the ball off the HBF. He had multiple inside 50s, and was dangerous. An encouraging game.

Ogle: He's still so far away from making it, but his endeavour can never be questioned. He is always prepared to run hard past a contest in order to move the ball, but he just makes rookie mistakes at important times: he was by himself under a high ball in defence and inexplicably fell over his own feet under no pressure, and other times it seemed he overestimated his own pace and tried to accelerate away but got caught holding the ball. He is improving step by step, and he did kick the ball well at times - it's just going to be a long process.

I spotted Guy O'Keefe watching - good to see him getting out of bed on a cold morning to support his mates. A note on the Willy guys - Rampe is a class above this level and deserves a run in the seniors. Very clean, always nicely balanced and kicks a heavy, penetrating ball.

Joyce was also impressive, never shirks an issue and is clever around the goals.

It's no secret that I rate him highly. With another pre season and some extra bulk, he's going to be a handful at both ends of the ground.

                            Appreciate these reports.
This is something I am really looking forward to. Do you think he can play for the seniors (WB) next year, may be a few games.
