    Werribee re-signs Atkins

    Chris Mitchell | September 08, 2009 05:45pm

EXCLUSIVE: WERRIBEE has reappointed Simon Atkins as coach, giving him a sixth season at the VFL club.

Atkins, whose current contract finished at the end of the season, has been given a one-year contract extension.

The former Western Bulldogs and Fitzroy player delayed contract discussions earlier in the season to get the 2008 preliminary finalist through a form slump.

He's done a good job with the club and I think it's a good move for them. I have a soft spot for Werribee because they looked after our boys well.

Its my understanding they wanted him to go full time but due to business commitments he couldn't. Yet they have signed him. Its that others view? Good luck to him and Werribee.
Surely the form slump had something to do with The Pod leaving?
Reason I ask is he seems to have a fairly good footy brain and knew where to go and how to get the footy.
Did he ever express interest in assistant roles at AFL clubs? I'm sure he'd do extremely well.

Losing Pods was a huge loss for the club, but it was something he needed to do. I think the form slump also had to do with 16(i think it was 16 anyway) playing there 1st senior game for Werribee, and to only miss out on the finals by one game(yes they did a Richmond and finished 9th lol) was a great effort from the club.

Look out for Michael Barlow in the draft, i think hes got a good chance of either a late draft pick or a rookie draft pick.
