    Peter German to coach Williamstown?

Heard on SEN that German is being lured from Casey to coach Williamstown in 2010. Has a handshake agreement with Casey only, and wasn't impressed with Melbourne giving him bugger all players for the finals. Also a developmental role at the Dogs is proposed as well.

Had heard that earlier in the week, but a bit surprised that it hasn't yet been announced.

Re: Peter German to coach Williamstown?

        It has now been confirmed.

I don't have a link - but the text of the press release is this:

The Williamstown Football Club is pleased to announce that Peter German has been appointed as the Club’s new Coach for the 2010 and 2011 seasons which will also see Peter as the Development Coach of the Western Bulldogs.

German played 185 games with the North Melbourne Football Club between 1984-1994, where he was renowned for his silky skills on the run after being recruited from local Essendon District League club Oak Park.

Since then he has gained a wealth of experience through his coaching career which has taken him across the country.

Williamstown Football Club General Manager Brendan Curry said today that he is delighted to have such a highly credentialed coach on board for the 2010 season.

“We are thrilled to have a coach of Peter’s standing, given the fact he successfully coached Burnie in Tasmania and Subiaco in Western Australia where he had premiership success at both clubs. He also had great experience at Hawthorn, West Coast and Fremantle as an assistant coach. We think he will be fantastic for the development of both the Western Bulldogs players and our own VFL list,” Curry said.

German took the Casey Scorpions to the VFL finals this year and it was this effort that saw him named as the 2009 VFL Coach of the Year.

Western Bulldogs General Manager of Football James Fantasia echoed Curry’s sentiments.

“Peter brings a wealth of experience in not only the coaching aspect but in the development of young talent. We are very excited to have him on board for next year,” he said.

While German says he is looking forward to the challenge ahead of him

“It is a different challenge in terms of what I have been doing over the last 12 months, I will have a hands on role with the development of the Western Bulldogs players, while being in charge of the Williamstown VFL side. I am looking forward to the challenge of bringing the two groups together and working towards a successful outcome,” German said.

Williamstown Football Club General Manager Brendan Curry stated today, “Now that the Club has been able to announce Peter’s appointment we will shortly finalise other coaching appointments for the 2010 season. This is an exciting new era for the Williamstown Football Club and we are very optimistic of creating a new football and coaching structure which will produce the on field results the club desires.”
