      Over and above.

      Greedy fookers*.

      * Yes, I know the other teams signed off on it - doesn't mean I have to like it.

        This is by Matt Burgan.

        WESTERN BULLDOGS
        Pre-season selections: Nil
        Rookie selections: 5 (19, 35, 48, 59, 68)
Needs: With Barry Hall on board, the Dogs have strength in each department and the luxury of topping up with long-term prospects or 'best available'.
In their sights: Expect the Bulldogs to select at least one, possibly two players from their aligned VFL club, Williamstown. Patrick Rose and Dane Rampe are right in the mix, as is former Blue Jake Edwards, whose father Allan played for the Dogs in 1984. Majak Daw is also training with the side, and is a chance if the Roos don't pounce earlier.

I would be happy if we picked up all four of those guys(plus a ruckman).

Tend to agree, however with a low first round pick any experienced ruckman (of which there are basically zero in the draft) will have been snapped up you'd think.

Unless our game plan changes we play two mobile ruckman. In the event that Will or Big Ben go down with an injury the next rung down is Roughead and Cordy. Skip has moved on and we are now exposed in the tall man department.

Hudson is now another year older. Mulligan has been promoted but isn't close to being a likely replacement at this stage due to barely getting on the park for the Willy 2nds. Ayce hasn't the bulk to go up against the monsters on a consistent basis.

          Roughy fits the bill.

Cross fingers it doesn't happen to early, but I have a feeling we'll see the emergence of a young mobile ruckman this season coming.

Roughy will play senior football at some stage this year and is considered our only genuine backup ruck.

I am not sure I would describe either Hudson or Minson as mobile ruckman, though at time big Will has surprised around the ground. Generally both are low stats collectors who do their best work in the centre square. If one goes down early in the year I suspect we may use Everitt or Williams as pinch hitters to help out. If we don't have major injuries, I can't see Roughead getting much game time, if any, unless he shows he can be dangerous up forward or he takes the VFL by storm. I think it is much more likely that 2011 will be Roughies breakout year.

Having said all that, if the unthinkable happens re injuries, then Roughead, Cordy, Everitt and Williams as a ruckmen of last resort group, give me more confidence that Street, Skipper, Wight and MacDougal ever did.

Given Rose is more of a leading forward, I think the gap in our list is small, crumbing forwards with good chasing skills. I would rather go with Lynch or a similar type for the last pick.

OK, after extensive research, (i've seen them all play...) i've decided that the Dogs need to Rookie draft these players:

Cameron Hitchcock (goal sneak who kicked 80 goals in the 18's and reserves this year)

Craig Pitt, and Alex Carey, (on ballers/midfielders)

Michael Bennett, and Warrick McGinty (Ruckmen)

aah yep, all are from Glenelg.

The more I think about this, the more I hope we rookie list a developed ruckman as a backup. Given that Eade has set reaching the Grand Final as a minimum goal, we need to cover ourselves...

Worst case scenario- Hudson or Minson are out injured for the Grand Final- our backup ruck options come from Everitt, Roughead and Mulligan. This would not sit comfortably with me.

If we lose 2 key backman say Lake and Morris, its the same situation.
Its nice to have a backup but we can't have one for every possibility.

I think Everitt has the ability to cover for a few games. I'm not sure about a whole season though. Here's hoping Roughead gets his body right this pre-season because he looked a little light in a recent photo I saw.

                        Good point.

There's no point taking a mature ruck if they're no good. Stick to best available or if you wish to take a risk, take a player of Daw's ilk.

Let's be honest, if we were going to take a mature ruck than we would have just kept Skipper on the list. It appears Eade and co are happy with Roughead to be next in line and if they have the sort of confidence and faith in him already I guess it says plenty for how highly they rate him.

Heard a whisper that Glenelg Half Back Flanker/Small Defender Paul Adlington will (may) be drafted today to an interstate club.

Good player, clean hands, full of endeavour but not thye biggest bloke at the club.
