Anyone from WOOF go down to the Whitten Oval to watch this? Or does anyone have a link to a report on these hitouts?

      From the Williamstown website:

Last Friday 19th March Williamstown played Sandringham in their first practice match for the 2010 season. Williamstown won the game by 40 points even with their inaccurate kicking for goal with Patrick Rose uncharacteristically kicking 5 behinds.

      Williamstown 1.6 4.8 6.10 11.15 (81)
      Sandringham 1.0 3.1 6.3 6.5 (41)

Williamstown Goalkickers : Matthew Little 2, Brett Johnson 2, Ben Jolley 1, David Stretton 1, Luke Cartelli 1, Kwame McHarg 1, Brennan Stack 1, Jordan Roughead 1, Ayce Cordy 1

Sandringham Goalkickers : Michael Gardiner 1, Ben Howard 1, Johnno Nash 1, Alistair Smith 1, Paul Cahill 1, Nick Heyne 1

Williamstown Reserves defeated Sandringham by 17 points after an ordinary first quarter when we failed to score with a strong wind in the first quarter. From that point the team rallied with their accurate kicking for goal a highlight.

      Williamstown 0.0 3.0 7.0 9.1 (55)
      Sandringham 2.3 4.6 5.6 5.8 (38)

Williamstown Goalkickers : Matthew Panos 4, Ben Davies 2, Andrew Hooper 1, Dylan Ayton 1, Nick DiMartino 1

Re: Williamstown prac. match schedule 2010

From what I saw on Friday afternoon (most of the first half) Peter German has a massive job on his hands to develop our young players.

Grant - Didn't get near it. He had no idea where to position himself. If you were viewing him for the first time in that game you would have thought that he had never played before.... He was that bad.

Stack - No where near it.

Thorne - Hates physical contact. Clean with the ball, but he will get smashed in the AFL.

Jones- Good signs. Ran hard at the ball and took a few good marks. Still a work in progress, but he would hold his own if he played now.

Wood - Good run from behind, but his kicking has to improve.

Tutt - Beautiful kick, but he is very small.

Boumann - Needs to harden up, was looking for the sympathy vote when he received a knock.

Markovic - Reads the play well, but lacks leg speed.

Roughead - Showed further positive signs.

Cordy - Still a fair way off (like 2 years) on that performance.

Panos - Leads to the right spots.

Mantis. I haven't caught a preseason Willy game this season

Who do you think is closer at this stage out of the younger blokes should there be a spot, Grant, Jones or maybe even Panos? Tall athletic marking forward.

Jones is miles ahead of Grant in terms of body development, football nous and intensity.

Haven't seen enough of Panos, but I would still have Grant in front of him.

Not great signs coming from Grant and Cordy, they've struggled to even find the ball so far this season.

Agree with most of your comments Mantis.

Bit harsh on young Boumann though, i thought he showed a lot of aggression towards the ball and opponent. I can recall 2 or 3 good strong tackles. He did cop a corky in the 2nd or 3rd qrter though.

Jones will be a star. His work ethic and ball hunting instincts are first rate.

Cordy's leg have thickened up nicely, another 12 months and he will almost be AFL ready.

Not sure if Panos is 2 inches short or a yard slow. Does have a good footy brain and is a deadly set shot. Not a bad rookie selection.

Panos appears to be a classic rookie list player, quality player with obvious flaws (pace) that if he can work on and address could become a decent player. In terms of comparison he would be similar to Podisadly in that he is a smart footballer who has shown ability but the biggest question mark is whether he can perform at the very top level.

Jones is essentially in his first season with us as a full time footballer after completing year 12 and football duties with Old Scotch last year. Taking that into account, in the limited opportunities he's had he has been very impressive and has even earned a senior game in the NAB Cup. Like any young key position player he needs to simply work on developing his immature frame in both strength & fitness as well as gaining experience through playing with Williamstown. He is well placed at the moment to forge a successful career provided he can continue to improve, develop & maintain the right attitude.

As for Cordy, I wouldn't be worrying just yet, for someone his size he is coming from a fair way back in terms of developing a body to compete at the top level. The flip side is while trying to fast track his development as quickly as possible we need to be conscious of not over burdening such a young, light frame that could lead to injuries and essentially stall his development. He would be currently on par for where we need him to be, he will tease us and show glimpses of his obvious talent at Williamstown this year but he is still at least 12 months away of being able to produce it on consistent basis or at the very top level.

Given Hall has 2 yrs and Hudson at least 1 you'd think - another 2 yrs into Jones and cordy would be manageable I'd say. Hopefully they come good when the others retire.

Ayce Cordy hurt his shoulder again today, looked to be in a lot of pain, Peter Dean told us he could go back on if he wanted to, but imo there was no chance he could have gone back on(although im no doctor)....
