    State league fooballers

Great to see so many state league footballers make their debut for the first round.
Some were drafted (Jetta), some were promoted off the rookie list (Silvagni and Barlow) and some just missed out (Moles) so I wonder how many players kicking around the state leagues now could make a contribution next season?

Some good performers too - not just making up the 22
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

I'm going to keep pumping up Stopp's tyres until (if) he gets picked.

Certainly demonstrates to me that clubs do need to look at State level players, and can certainly add some depth (and even more) on the cheap. Perhaps it's a route Melbourne will look at closely over the next couple of years whilst the ND's younger players are being shipped off to the GC.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

I know you wouldn't post if your source wasn't solid, so let's hope that if Cooney does miss, it's only for one match.

Regarding the OP, I would hope that we have scouts in each state focusing purely on state level football, rather than underage games (I'm sure there are a few on here that would put there hand up ).

The teams who get 'mature age' drafting right over the next couple of years can really accelerate their development/progress.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

I've thought about before. It's a pity that the Club doesn't pick the brains of the guys on this forum who regularly watch the VFL games. You certainly are a passionate and knowlegable lot and every little bit of information helps.

                      Is it his knee?

EDIT: Don't worry about this GVGjr as you have answered this question in another thread.

Back on the topic of the thread,

Will be interesting to keep a close eye on state league footballers this season, as many of them will get drafted with GC17 and gws coming in.
We have seen already in only 2 rounds of AFL that state league players of all types can make an impact at AFL level. Midfielders like Moles and Barlow, defenders like Silvagni, and possibly a forward like Pods will soon make his debut for Geelong with injuries to Mooney etc.

A lot of the VFL sides this year have had major shake up's. Williamstown for example almost looks a completely different side. New coach, and a lot of the senior listed players have moved on. The void will need to be filled with new arrivals and the bulldog listed players.

I will keep a close eye on Williamstown and also Port Melbourne, as i get to see quite of bit of both these sides. Interesting to see how Malcolm Lynch goes at Port.
