    VFL vs WAFL state game

Here's the team for Saturday's clash with the evil WAFL empire.

A couple of Williamstown boys made the side, including rookie listed Bulldog Patrick Rose.

Leederville oval is a very big ground and a speedy WAFL side will be tough to beat.

    Go VICS!!!

Is there a limit/rule regarding AFL Rookies? I presume that AFL listed players (someone like Boumann, for example) can't be selected?

I think if your a currently listed rookie (not promoted) you can play.

Not sure on the number if there is any restriction.

AFL listed players can't play but rookie listed players that have not been promoted can play

I am again doing stuff with the u20's over here so should be able to give a report on:
          - The WA vs Vic game.
          - The WA u18's progress
          - The u20's group (and there are a few likely types in the side this year).

Unfortunately I suspect the weather will completely destroy the game.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

My brother watched the game on tv and the Vics won by approximately 55 points.

            Shocking weather apparently.

Patrick Rose kicked 3.3. Matt Little kicked 7 goals and was B.O.G for the Vics

Re: VFL vs WAFL state game

The weather was up and down. The problem with the game was the first q was played in pretty good conditions, Victoria flew out of the blocks and then the rain came...Little was very good though and the Vics were very clean with the footy. That said, the WA pressure skills were not great.

With my game, the 20's went alright - lost by a couple of goals. Anthony Kyanga really looks to be coming back into some good form and with his leg-speed would do alright at AFL level. Others to play pretty well were Sam Worthington (defender from Subi via Kalgoorlie in his first year), Rhett Mason was classy through the mid-field and will surely be drafted and Jacob Brennan looked good as a running defender.

The 18's were pretty good, though I am not certain they are at the level of last years group - with Swallow and Matera already gone to the Gold Coast there is a fair bit of class out of the group. Harley Bennell was sensational on the wing - kicked 4, had it nearly 30 times whilst Jack Darling was dangerous up forward. My general feeling though was that if SA are as good as they say they are (best group in 20 years apparently) that they will win by 5-8 goals at AAMI next weekend.

mjp, based on what you saw yesterday (and previously), would you take a punt on Little as a mature age rookie?

He doesn't have the size of Podsiadly, but his hands are easily the best in the VFL and with Johnson and Aker on their last legs, he could slot into the forward line straight away.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

I know Essendon are interested in him, they've sent some scouts out a couple of times to have a look at him. If not at Essendon, I think he'll be on a list somewhere next seson.

I wonder if we're able to stitch him up via an agreement with Williamstown?

Perhaps because of the family link with Hird.

I guess it comes down to who's prepared to use the earliest rookie selection on him, we don't have any specific claim on him over any other club, but obviously we get the added incentive of Willi picking up some of the tab if we give him a go.

To be honest I think his form is so strong and his talent so obvious that several clubs will be open to giving him a go.

I reckon some VFL players who might otherwise be selected via the Rookie Draft may find themselves considered as late round National Draft selections due to a) the talent pool being drained by GC17 & b) the impressive showing this season by Podsiadly, Barlow & Silvagni.

Not sure to be honest. I'd told a player manager I know that he was a really good player for him to recommend to some of his recruiter mates. He rang Didoro at Esssendon who said he agreed and they'd already been out to have a look, that was in about round 3 or 4.

I think you're right TCD, and Little is hardly a well kept secret so wouldn't be a surprise to see him picked up in the 50-70 range by a club that thinks he fits a specific need.
