Thanks for the reports guys, Doc especially for the effort you put in, great stuff.

It seems in general like our list is really coming together nicely.

Do you guys who have seen a bit of Panos think he could be a possible upgrade to the senior list next year? I was a bit iffy on him last year before the draft, but he has done very well this year based on his returns, and the reports you guys write seem to be increasingly positive. He could well be a great rookie draft steal.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

If he continues to play like yesterday he would be a certainty for an upgrade. the Coburg defence had some handy players like Rance and Gourdis and he acquitted himself very well. He's a natural footballer who knows when to lead. He worked beautifully with Little and Jones as I said earlier. The thing I liked was he wanted the ball and wasn't there to make up the numbers. He was very comfortable at this level, much more so than Howard and Tutt on yesterday's showing.

        Re: R 13 - Williamstown v Coburg

        Defenders:

Markovic - Lacks mobility but a solid contributor. Shoulders heavily strapped
Tiller - Battled away as always but like Doc mentioned, he doesn't appear to have the skills to make a go of it for the Bulldogs. Was pitted against some tall opponents and did OK.
Boumann - Probably CHB for most of the game. Provided plenty of run and I thought his marking and athleticism was impressive. The continual short kicking doesn't win too many points with me but perhaps he's working to instructions.
Howard - I thought he acquitted himself OK and his kicking was mostly reliable even under pressure. For Howard to be getting some senior games in such a strong side would be a good learning curve for him. There is a decent step from playing reserves football to the seniors and it won't hurt him to spend more weeks in the magoos.

Forwards: (Some rotated in the midfield)

Jones - His fitness level is still lacking but can take contested grabs. Seems to work very well with Little and his kicking into the forward 50mtrs is a bit better than his goal kicking. Will become a great prospect for us over the next 2 seasons.
Rose - One of his better games over the last few weeks. Good decision making, and really worked hard. Topped off a good day with a couple of goals. Played as a forward and midfielder.
Hill - Started on the IC bench before mainly playing forward. Very quiet on the day.
Panos - Also started on the IC bench. Held some strong marks and is a smart player but his lack of mobility is still a concern.
Hooper - Got the first goal of the game with a bit of smart work and then received a terrific handball from Little to get his 2nd. Not a great game but he is doing his job each week.

        Midfield:

Mulligan - Played out of position as a ruck man and with little to no support was wore down after half time. He has made some progress this year and whilst I had some doubts on him I now see some value with him.
Akermanis - He didn't rack up a lot of possessions but it was a quality performance. He copped some heavy knocks including one in friendly fire and went off the ground a few times but it was an encouraging effort. Kicked 3 goals and moved between midfield and forward duties.
Addison - Definitely the best of the Bulldog boys. Coughed the ball up a few times but it was an encouraging effort.
Tutt - Very quiet and struggled with the tempo of the game.

        For Willy
Cam Lockwood gave up some early free kicks with undisciplined play but I like his endeavor.
Matt Little must be able to offer an AFL side some value.
Grossman provided plenty of dash and a commitment to getting the ball.
Brett Johnson is the Scott West of this side.

He is incredibly quick and takes the game on but he can't kick. Turns it over almost every time he gets it. This is a pity. If he can correct this he could be an exciting and damaging player in my view.

For a couple of season he couldn't crack it for a game in the seniors despite good performances in the reserves and it could only be his kicking.
He's very fit and exceptionally fast plus doesn't shirk a contest but given all those athletic qualities it most likely comes down to kicking efficiency from stopping him develop as a player.
As you say, it's a pity.

Great reports guys, esp Doc and GVGjr. Your efforts in putting the detail into reporting on each player is most informative and greatly appreciated by those who can't or don't get to as many games as they would like.

When some of these guys do get there chances to go up it's good to be able to trace back there form lines to see where they have come from.

Yep, agreed. I allways read these threads with interest but rarely reply.

On another tangent, I've seen players go from Junior to Reserves to League level here in SANFL and suddenly find there feet when playing with other good players.

At the Bays a few years ago a young lad in one of his first league games got 10 more possessions then he ever had thru countless reserves games, mainly thru better delivery.

I'd be very reluctant to let him go because he has some skills and talent that could make him into an very good player. I think the club will try everything to get him playing the sort of football that he is capable of before even thinking about cutting him loose.
Most other coaches will have the same expectations of him so it's not like he wouldn't have to make the same improvements elsewhere.

Thanks. We have a strong following from the interstate guys and girls for the Williamstown games. I can't get there each week but there always appears to be someone writing a report to cover the games.

I think we are on the tele for the next 2 weeks so if you can't get to watch the games, I might be able to help

Where might Mulligan be best suited do you think? If not ruck does he have to be CHB?

CHB seems a logical place but given his marking has improved it wouldn't surprise me to see him used as a forward. Mind you we are load for tall forwards.
