    Valenti and Clifton share Liston

Brett Diamond - The Age - 6 September

FORMER Melbourne-listed midfielder Shane Valenti's hopes of resurrecting his AFL career have been boosted after he and North Ballarat on-baller Stephen Clifton were named joint winners of the J. J. Liston Trophy in the VFL at Etihad Stadium last night.

Clifton and Valenti were locked on 20 votes for the VFL's highest individual honour at the end of a dramatic count - in which both fended off Box Hill Hawk Ed Curnow, who led the count until his season-ending leg injury in round 13.

Curnow, a former Adelaide rookie, finished third on 13 votes, ahead of Gold Coast teenager David Swallow (12).

Good to see a couple of Williamstown players break the top 10..

Surely Little is going to be looked at next year as a mature aged rookie? Is this something we would have first dibs at coming from our VFL affiliate? Or am I just asking something stupid and he's up for grabs to whoever has the picks before us?

The latter, he'll be drafted/rookied by whoever selects him first.

Gold Coast have first crack on all players who have previously been delisted.

Does it matter what year they were delisted?

I don't really know, I wouldn't imagine so, it depends what suits the AFL at the time.

He's been injured which isn't good for him. Was being mentioned before his injury but I haven't heard anything lately.

Played two (?) years ago a full season at Glenelg reserves, never even looked like being close to senior selection. Was delected 12 months ago (while the Cows kep Brian Donnelly, crap Irish recruit, who was useless)

Mot much of him and didn't seem to be overly special in any one area, but agree that he must have improved a lot since then.
