What's going on there (actually it's probably obvious - he did cop another knock last week and had to go forward)

Do you ever read anything into the Bulldgos players listed in the Thursday Williamstown sheet? I can't remember seeing Gilbee's name there much, it's normally the 'fringe' guys that are on the extended bench (like Addison, DJ, Moles) for a Sunday game.

I wouldn't have thought so given its a 2pm start & the ABC televised game is normally a 1.10pm start.

Read the following in the Age during the week:

Bulldogs development coach Peter German said Lake is in doubt to play in the VFL next week after copping a "corky" in the second term in the Seagulls' 35-point win over Sandringham at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee.

If he's cooked put him on the LTIL.

Perhaps the club have gone back on the "must play VFL" and he's doing the mini-preseason?
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Putting him on the LTIL means he can't play in any competition for a minimum of 8 weeks. That would mean at best we'd be looking at an AFL return in round 17-18 and he'd have barely played in 12 months.

Silly decision not to have this game on the ABC.

Don't the VFL decide on the schedule and therefore the TV game.
As I am in Melbourne this weekend I might venture over to Port and have a look.

                            Re: Williamstown - Round 7

Well I went for a look and the conditions were atrocious.

Willi were never in it and I see that as an extension of the injury list at the dogs. Additionally Hahn did not play.

                            The Dogs players
Mitch Wallis - started on the bench but was on pretty early. Pretty good in the contest and got plenty of it. Unfortunately his use was poor and something like 3 of his first 5 kicks went out on the full. The others went to the opposition. He did persist well and looks class around the ball. The conditions made good ball use difficult.
Sam Reid - certainly tried hard, but struggled to get possessions in conditions that I thought would suit.
Jordan Roughead Roughy went ok but Port do have 2 mature ruckman with AFL experience (Fanning ex Collingwood and Wayde Skipper) so he had plenty of opposition. I was pleased with the way he battled on in unsuitable conditions.
Jayden Schofield Struggled in the conditions and missed a few chances to take a mark by opting to spoil. Did not do enough to warrant a promotion in this game.
Zephi Really did not flatter. Flew a couple of times and can leap but struggled to get the ball. Easily pushed off it at ground level.
Christion Howard Did show that he does not lack courage with a couple of efforts back in to traffic and also showed he can kick a long ball. Did not hit many targets, but there weren't many targets being offered.
James Mulligan Also did not flatter much but was able to negate balls in the air. Unfortunately Port were able to crumb about 6 goals from the goal square. Mulligan does not get many possessions, but the conditions did not suit.
Patrick Veszpremi Really disappointing with just a handful of touches and nothing effective. Needs to work a lot harder if he is going to add anything to the Bulldogs.
Nathan Djerrkura Tried hard and occasionally looked like he might do something but was generally beaten by his opponents. His disposal was also poor.
Jason Tutt Provides some run and does make reasonable use of the ball. Lack of strength might tell against him.
Luke Dalhaus A real livewire who is prepared to get down and dirty. He really does move quickly and looked the most likely of all the Willi players today. He was involved in more scores than anyone else and I would see him as the most likely upgrade when a rookie elevation is available.
The conditions suited but he really worked hard.
Andrew Hooper Hoops had a go and did some nice things. Set up a nice goal for Dalhaus in the second and was prepared to work for the team. For a little bloke he has safe hands.
Ed Barlow Worked hard and was not the worst. He is no power athlete but he did keep trying and was servicable.
Ayce Cordy Ayce started at CHB but the conditions were not good for him and they quickly changed that and used him more in the ruck and a little forward. He did compete for the hitouts and got better as the game went on, despite the conditions. Ayce still needs time.
Matthew Panos On a day and in conditions that were not suited to a marking forward Panos worked hard and competed well. His kicking is very reliable when he has a chance at goal.

Overall Port Melbourne were simply too good. They do have a good side and plenty of mature bodied players and their only aim is a VFL flag. At ground level they simply out muscled Willi and also ran the ball and supported each other very well.

I had a pleasant day and actually sat next to a Port Melbourne supporter who applauded good play from both sides. She was with her daughter (Mother of Port Melb player Myles Pitt) and grand-daughter. Her daughter told me she had been following football for 80 years and it was a pleasure to converse with her about the footy.
